Blacksky Sanctum

(Scroll to the bottom for OOC Info)

IC Info

The enigmatic organisation known as the Blacksky Sanctum operates as a resting place and refuge for that which is forgotten, broken and/or discarded.
A motley collection of individuals, all members share at least one trait - they were overlooked by those who they thought cared about them.

Risen from the Grave

"The Sanctum rose from the grave, and the grave is its final destination, once its labors are complete and its members spent.
The dead are not horrors, they are the tragic remnants of former friends, lovers and family members.
So it follows that the motif of Death should be a holy symbol, dignified, something you might see in a catacomb or a sepulcher. A simple skull, not designed to be menacing, nor to shock, intimidate or terrify.
Instead Death is almost a religious icon; fond, reverent, and mournful, a reminder of one’s own mortality.
Consider a crown that has been unearthed from a tomb after decades in the dark and damp. The silk was once a rich, smooth, regal purple, but has long since faded, frayed, and gone to tatters. The silver has lost much of its luster, but the stately elegance of its design is still visible under the tarnish.
Such evokes the loss of beauty and splendor."
-Rector Albrecht Quireman, c. Summer of 32, Year 624 By the King’s Calendar.

Blacksky Sanctum exists as it rose from the dead, and much like its founder chooses to continue to exist to serve the people of Lordaeron, the people of the Horde, and the people of Azeroth. One day death will be final, but only when the work is done.

Recovery, Restoration, Redemption

"War is wasteful, and conflict costly. An old battlefield is littered with the broken corpses, materiel and weapons of the fallen.
"Azeroth has seen its fare share of conflict over thousands of years. There yet remains a vast number of broken, discarded and lost. People, knowledge, and artefacts alike.
"The Sanctum’s glory does not exist in the front line of battle, not the charge and rush of victory, but the winds settling afterward. We are not to gain this fame for ourselves, but instead we are to recover that which has lost its luster.
“Such that it may be restored, to shine once again.”
-Rector Albert Limin, c. Autumn of 33, Year 625 by the King’s Calendar.

The standing mission of the Blacksky Sanctum is to recover, restore and redeem that which has been cast aside from the ravages of conflict on Azeroth.
More often than not treasures can be found forgotten in the wastes of battlefields, both recent and ancient.
Archaeology, battlefield clean up/recovery, and artifact hunting are all within the purview of the Sanctum.
While notably absent as an organisation during the recent Fourth War, members of the Sanctum have still been active in protecting what they can, preventing loss and collateral damage wherever is possible and practical.

Hidden at the Roof of the World

Secretly operating from the recovered Necropolis of Zeramas, agents of the Blacksky Sanctum operate across Azeroth by way of multiple methods of portal and gateway magic.
Within the Horde they serve again as couriers, merchants, scribes, tradespeople, non-combat holy people, among other professions. This gives them the ability to be present for different world events, but always on the sideline, or coming after the fact, rarely in the front battle.
Zeramas itself is a well defended Necropolis, with the only mundane approach by air guarded through multiple magical defenses. As such it is a veritable library and reliquary, for those who are initiated to the knowledge of it.

Death is Broken

During the Fourth War the majority of Blacksky Sanctum resource has been dedicated to studying the strange alterations that surround the process of Death.
What few records of post-death experiences exist within the historical record, none describe the dark and hungry hole that recent near-death experiences have mentioned.
With Lady Sylvanas Windrunner and the unknown but rumoured new Lich King gaining power, the Sanctum has determined that one, or both, of these powerful entities, is responsible.

OOC Info

Timezone

Blacksky Sanctum is an Oceanic Hours Guild, operating from the Wyrmrest Accord server. This means that our events are typically run between 1am and 4am Server time, Mondays and Thursdays.

Activity

Blacksky Sanctum is a primarily Roleplaying Guild.
Blacksky Sanctum as a concept was originally created by Quireman in 2016, but alas due to real life commitments, it has been idle for some time.
We are currently few in number, but together with our sister guild Lordaeron Unbound, and friends on other RP servers, we have people on reasonably regularly.
If this guild, theme and timezone sounds like you, get in touch!

Themes

One of the major themes of the Blacksky Sanctum is the reverence of Death. Death motifs used in the Sanctum are seen as holy symbols, dignified, symbols you might see in a catacomb or a sepulcher.

With the upcoming Shadowlands expansion, Death is a theme that the guild stories will focus on.

Our events surround the recovery of forgotten lore, discovery of lost artefacts, and redemption of broken people. Followed by the archiving of the same in the correct place for them within the Sanctum.

Blacksky Sanctum and Lordaeron Unbound have had some substantial collaboration in RP of late - which has been a nice way of building an oceanic RP community. At this stage, while Blacksky gets itself established, we’ve even been sharing a discord server! Definitely recommend giving it a look, especially if you’re an oceanic or late night player seeking RP!

Like Sarestha above me, who I am totally unrelated to, I support this new Oceanic guild.

This is definitely not just a bump :stuck_out_tongue: (Or is it? Come to think of it… I’ve never seen myself and Sarestha in the same room. Maybe we ARE the same person.)

More Oceanic RP is always good though, give Blacksky a look if you’re interested!

A really bad acrostic poem for a fellow oceanic guild:

Broadly speaking I think I’ve possibly attempted to bring
Up this post all to frequently. I
Might stop eventually, but for now I must continue to
Pursue the course I am currently on, as it is too late to back out now.

The Fallen Crusader’s Judgement

The gaze of the righteous endures beyond death.
Let unholy cower in the face of the Light.
Though our fallen three can no longer draw breath,
Yet ever will their eyes shine out judgement most bright.

The Fallen Crusader’s Judgement is a vile artefact that must be destroyed. Each time an organisation has attempted to keep it secure it has been used against the Forsaken by their enemies. After a conversation with Cyethal, Rector Albert Limin of the Blacksky Sanctum has agreed to seek out all three of the skull artefacts and eliminate them.

After being retrieved from the hands of defeated necromancer Folthagor, the First Fallen Crusader’s Judgement is in a secure hiding place. When all three skulls are located, the ritual to destroy them will be at its easiest to achieve.

The Second Skull

Albert Limin has determined the location of the second skull artefact is within the hands of a priest in Hearthglen, the Argent town in the Andorhal province of Lordaeron. He requests that the Lordaeron Unbound and any other Blacksky associates come to help him retrieve the artefact, using all manner of diplomacy or means at their disposal.
Meet Albert Limin at the north gate of Andorhal.
