H. Priest really needing gearing and endgame advice

So I have been stuck at around ilvl 390 for a really long time and I am having trouble reaching 400 or past. I really need some advice with the problems I am having. If anyone could give any advice, that would be great.

My character is here https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/character/us/moon-guard/Elydare

I know there are a few ways to get better gear.

  1. Mythic +: I have tried doing these, but I often feel like my healing is not good enough. I have only completed m0. I can heal most DPS fine, but the tank, I feel like even my stronger healing spells do almost nothing with their total health and how much damage they take. So I am too scared to try healing a higher mythic, which I need to do in order to get the chest and get better gear.

This is how much my healing does
Flash heal: 15,873
Heal: 20,576
HW Serenity: 58,789
Prayer of Mending: 5,897
HW Sanctify: 20,576
Prayer of Healing: 7,349
Circle of Healing: 8,818

I am not sure how this compares to others around my ilvl. Do I need to try to change any of my stats?

  1. Raids: I have done Battle of Daz normal and Heroic multiple times, up to Jaina. I have also done Crucible normal a few times. The problem is that it takes so long to find people to do it and there is often a lot of waiting between fights as people leave and new people join. I did not feel like I had problems with these and healing them, but I was never the top at any type of healing meter.

  2. Loot dropping in general: While I want to run dungeons and raids to get gear, I have horrible luck. Gear never drops for me. In the last 15 dungeons I have ran, I got 3 pieces of gear and one of them was from a bonus roll. Of all the times I have ran the raids, mentioned above(7 times), I have gotten 2 pieces of loot and one was a worst piece of gear.

So, I am not sure if I want to run mythic raids and m+ dungeons because I am not confident in how well I can heal, and I likely won’t get any loot. On top of that, most runs want higher ilvls than what I am, so I can not find many groups.

  1. Finding groups: As I just mentioned, I have trouble finding groups for stuff because my ilvl is only 393. I am in a guild, but they are pretty small and not normally that active. However, I don’t want to leave the guild at all because this is the first time I have found a guild in WOW. I have had the game for a few years and have only been in guilds that spam invites. In a guild I like to get to know people individually and I prefer smaller guilds that talk on Discord and stuff. This is the first guild that I have actually liked.

  2. Lag: Ever since Legion came out, I get horrible lag after about 30 minutes of playing. Once I close the game and log back in, it gets better but the lag often comes back faster. This never happened before Legion and it also happens in Classic. I don’t think it is a problem on my end, as my internet is very good and I don’t have lag problems in any other game. This can be somewhat disruptive when running dungeons and raids.

Does anyone have any advice at all? Skills, builds, azerite powers, etc? I really need some help. Thank you so much!

Also, I do not really want to switch my profession from Alchemy/Herbalism. It would also take so long to level the BFA profession.

I’ve been gearing my Resto Shaman lately, and I feel your pain. Gearing got a lot slower above 390. Focus on your “low” slots to get your overall item level up. I always check the full complement of World Quests, especially Nazjatar quest for benthic gear, to see if there’s any upgrades there. World bosses especially. Get into a Normal EP if you can, with as many bonus roll tokens as you can. Suck it up and start running mythic+ keys. The loot that drops and ESPECIALLY the chest is the biggest upgrades I see. Take Guardian Angel and Apotheosis for dungeons, they help TREMENDOUSLY with tank healing. I swear to God higher keys (with not-scary affixes) are EASIER to heal because people actually do mechanics. If the tank is dying with you spamming heals on them, that’s not your fault. This is not a case of you not having enough healing for low keys.

LFR, warfront weekly quest and the alliance equivalent of the tortolan weekly should all drop higher ilvl gear for you.
However your issue seems more one of confidence than gear. Start with low keys and see how far you can push them until you hit that limit. Also dungeon and raid healing are quite different styles, in a raid you have a heal team to help fill the gaps but in a dungeon you’re on your own.
Holy has quite a powerful aoe toolkit for dungeons as well as some cooldowns to help with the tank. Go ham on the healing and drink to get manna after every pack of you have to.

For dungeons I recommend switching some talents around.

Guardian Angel is good because it lets you use Guardian Spirit more often. Aside from the lifesaving part of it, the 60% extra healing helps in a pinch.

Surge of Light is good because it lets you cast Flash Heal instantly and frankly dungeons involve a lot of Flash Heal spam. To go along with this, if you can find Azerite gear with Permeating Glow this is recommended.

Apotheosis is highly recommended for dungeons. With that you can get Holy Word: Serenity and Holy Word: Sanctify off cooldown very quickly depending on who’s hurt the most.

Divine Hymn should be used often since it outputs more healing in dungeons vs raids.

A few quick comments:

In M0, if your tank is needing a lot of constant healing, I’ve found it’s generally because they’re either ridiculously undergeared, or they don’t know to keep the mobs in front of them.

Raiding gives you the luxury of not being the sole healer – I’d argue to stick to that until you’re >415 ilvl.

On the subject of lag, how much RAM does your system have?

Before you do anything else, go unlock the ability to use Essences!

Mythic+: Run low keys to get used to the pulls and mechanics. One thing to be aware of, 5-7 keys can be more difficult than 10+ keys if the group, especially the tank, doesn’t know what they’re doing. Grab the Raider.IO addon to help streamline your non-terrible group finding. Make sure you have Deadly Boss Mods or BigWigs (LittleWigs for dungeons) so you’re less of a liability.

Eternal Palace: Run LFR to see the mechanics then start looking for Normal groups. Again, make sure you have boss mods. You may also want to pick up Personal Loot Helper to help you discreetly identify and approach people in the raid who have upgrades you can use (strongly recommend you change the default whisper message to something less whiny; will also help differentiate your messages from others using the addon).

Benthic gear: While none of it is particularly useful to healers it’s easy to acquire and upgrade to 415+ making your ilvl more appealing.

There’s more but that’ll give you some starting places.
