Go far enough left and you get your Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker back!

DRAGONS. Everyone’s leveling and we’re fighting for and riding dragons.

This expansion really isn’t dragon on though. It’s been so fun so far.

Hi! Friendly neighbour guild orchestrator here!

Everyone is welcome to have gear, know mechanics and use DBM or any add on they so desire as long as it is not making others feel uncomfortable, unwelcome or like they dont belong.
So if you like those things and being a nice person that doesnt use those things to hold over other people, head on over to our app

I appreciate the leadership’s willingness to seek out the opinions of other members in the guild when analyzing a situation-- It’s easy to believe you understand a situation, or that you know how people feel about what is happening, but much harder to take into account a diverse set of opinions and experiences and weigh that against your own perceptions. This, unfortunately, doesn’t ensure that everyone ends up happy-- But it does mean that the silent majority don’t suffer for fear of rocking the boat, which is what ends up happening with too many guilds.

And as someone who has gear and knows mechanics, I can say for certain that so far, nobody feels threatened by my presence! I have been in a good number of guilds in my time on WoW and other MMOs, and so far Commune ranks high among the guilds I have felt the most comfortable in. I have great faith in the current leadership team to keep it that way through the rest of the expansion.

No offense or anything but you’re like vague posting about a particular situation with no context or specifics about what actually happened. How is anyone supposed to take anything you say seriously when you’re being passive aggressive and using language that honestly makes me think you’re not actually acting in good faith.

I’m all for calling out faux leftist groups and spaces that use their perceived politics as a shroud for being elitist jerks that silence and disparage difference of opinion or views especially if they’re more left.

However, this word salad you continue to post does little to paint a picture of any wrong doing, only that it seems you weren’t welcome or got shamed for doing something that people deemed inappropriate or annoying enough that you decided to part ways. In a “leftist” space/guild/group I am partial to believe it’s because their brand of politics or strictness on tolerating negative behavior (whatever that means to that group) is not something someone can deal with.

If you were able to produce some sort of proof and specifics about your situation it would do good for the community at large to discern for themselves who to avoid or form opinions on.

Until then, I recommend finding a group you can actually get along with and stop acting like a basement child on the internet.

If the idea of a community where weirdos who post rants like the above are banned appeals to you, please come check us out :). We try to actively moderate our community as best we can.

I’m surprised you all didn’t hear the collective sigh of relief let out by members when your group departed. Y’all’s negative, demanding, and disagreeable attitudes started to make some members gaslight themselves and feel as though -they- were the problem. In what world is that right or makes sense? You still have time to make this a gracious departure, and I implore you and others to self reflect on your individual and collective actions. You all had ample opportunities to leave once you realized this wasn’t going to be the group for you, and that we weren’t going to bow to every complicated and unreasonable demand you had.

I truly wish you all the best in your future raiding endeavors, and hope you do not run into the same situations yourselves.

I agree with you and your perspective and I feel this will be an unpopular position for me to take, but I do think complaints like this are worth hearing out.

Leftist communities are not inherently more safe than other communities just because of ideals. They’re subject to the same dangers all communities face: toxic in-group dynamics, abuses of leadership or power, painful hierarchies and coercive pressure. Stories about people leaving leftist spaces with massive emotional damage are fairly common online–heck, more than a few of us have actually had experiences with it.

People often feel unable to speak up about these experiences for fear of being perceived as morally deficient, right-leaning or otherwise of possessing “bad vibes” (something that makes me, personally, super leery–a LOT of really cruel and unjust laws against people who don’t deserve it have been based on “bad vibes.”)

I agree the world salad makes it hard to understand. But I also appreciate that it can be very hard to formulate a complaint against a system like this. Like, obviously, this guild has good intentions and a progressive outlook. It can be hard for anyone (someone in the guild, someone affected by the guild, anyone) to form the words to voice your grievance in a way that won’t be dismissed or be twisted into an accusation of sympathy towards horrible positions.

I have immense sympathy for people who struggle to convey their feelings in the face of that kind of energy. I have been that kind of energy and it wasn’t healthy for me or anyone, but I admit that’s my own personal experience coloring my perception–take it as you will.

This guild seems perfectly fine and they are well within their rights to accept, dismiss or manage their community as they see fit. But I do find it a little alarming at how quick their ranks closed in response to criticism. There are a lot of people freely suggesting that the complainant do some reflection, not a lot of people in the guild taking the opportunity to do so themselves.

Which might seem unfair of me to point out–as I said, it’s their guild, they can do as they please. But I do feel like carrying a guild with a clear moral purpose intrinsically accepts more duty and responsibility to act in a healthy way. And to me, a healthy way means stopping often to consider whether one’s intentions are matching their executions.

And I increasingly grow concerned and disaffected at how often the reactions by leftist communities start to echo the reactions of right-leaning communities–close ranks, get angry, find enemies.

That is, to address the point, I am also for addressing faux leftist spaces. And part of addressing it means actually talking about it instead of just circling the wagons. And I don’t think that talking about it has happened here yet.

Of course, I’m just some nobody on a forum for a kinda-okay MMO. My opinion means fiddly diddly here.

Yeah, I mean, there’s just a lot that’s not being said here by the party who’s being critical of the difficult decision we made to kick them to keep our community safe. I can assure you that this is not the outcome any of us wanted and we certainly did reflect on it beforehand and still are.

And it doesn’t feel right to me as one of the leaders in this community to air out their dirty laundry to try to discredit them, even though they’re attempting to do that to us under the guise of innocently sharing their experience.

The rest of our members’ testimonies will have to be enough on their own.

for any onlookers here, ill say this: hurt is rarely one sided.

we made a difficult and strenuous decision to remove a group of new members who had been with us for only a short time - the above was only a member for about 3 weeks. over that short time, we had to moderate numerous issues revolving around the small group of new players who had formed their own exclusive group (see clique) which made condescending, elitist, dismissive, combative, hyperbolic, snide and underhanded comments directed at other new and long-term members. the morale of several of our players was incredibly low to the point that some were considering stopping playing altogether, even players who have been with us for upwards of 2 years. the moderation team was frankly drained, anxious, and at the end of their ropes trying to find an amicable solution to make everyone happy - unfortunately this seemed like an impossible task. after consistent escalations by the members in that small group, we made the difficult decision to cut ties in an attempt to preserve the close community we have worked hard over the years to foster.

from the perspective of an individual in that group, whose opinions have been bolstered in an echo chamber of validation, our actions seem villainous. however i will say that in being a member of this community since 2020, i have never seen such a widespread outpour of relief from members when the decision was made.
