Gw2 copy pasta doesn't play to WoW's strengths

I find them merging the gw2 griffon and skyscale mounts into 1 for one specific type of mount extremely bizarre.

Wow’s biggest problem is that literally nothing you build matters, either in the next expansion or the next season. Now, if this new system is better than old flying no one will touch the mounts they’ve spent years earning. If it’s not. Everyone will just complain until flying comes back.

What would make way more sense is if instead of tying the system to particular mounts, they actually treated it like each mount can be customized to either use the new flying, or the old. And then they could expand the system by adding even more types down the line.

Wow’s biggest issue is they keep making a new system instead of building on what’s there.

They could also do more to keep old content relevant. What if they didn’t nerf mission table or world quest rewards on previous expansions, but instead capped how much you could earn from all each week? Bored? Well max your previous expansion rewards from content of your choosing.

I can’t solve Wow’s biggest issue and that’s people grabbing the seasonal achieve and bailing off the top of my head, but seriously if they did more to keep progress i’ve built up over the years more relevant then i’d have more reasons to come back. Stop reinventing or copying the wheel blizzard. Build on top of what you have.

How are they suppose to build on old flying so its better than what we have in dragon flight?

What is stopping all mounts from having dragon flying in the future?

I say make ground mounts more interesting next. Dont stop with flying

One of WoWs biggest strengths has always been taking ideas and concepts from other things and making it better.

They should just expand dragonriding into its own minigame. Pvp dragonriding, races, time trials, unlockables etc. I think that would be really fun optional content.

The entire game is an ever quest clone done better

It’s not so much that they’re copying, though it does say something about their ability to innovate imo, it’s that they’re not building on their own systems. For how long does this system matter? until the new one comes? What do all my other mounts mean? Why would I want another one? If normal mounts are better, then why would I care that blizz gave me a creative way to forget about the fact I can’t fly in a handicapped way? And why wouldn’t I just wait until mid expansion so I don’t have to bother?

My biggest issue with this game is throw-away progress and talents feel like a band-aid I’m not sure will actually matter. I’m sure at some point, someone at blizz will struggle so hard to balance in the future, they’ll swap to a new borrowed power system.

So every idea ever done needs to be completely original and not borrowed from something else?

That ship sailed hundreds of years ago.

Technology builds off of the previous technology and so does good ideas

Jokes a side, I’m absolutely thrilled they’re doing this Dragon Riding feature like Guild Wars 2. I’m still baffled on why it took so long for them to steal it and improve on it WOW style.

I truly believe we’re in for some fun times with DF and this will be a BIG win for MMORPG fans and the coming standard to flying.

Extremely excited for this feature and hope they do it better.

My issue with it isn’t that it’s there or not potentially fun, I’m just not convinced it’s being implemented in a way that makes investing time into this game feel valuable. And I believe that’s a core issue with WoW → lots of people just get the season achieves, and drop. The only permanent progress you get is gold farming or mog farming, and I bet you, the only people playing after they get the seasonal achieves are people who enjoy those things.

I mean if it makes the Game better and look at what other mmos are doing better than WoW. You know for sure Blizzard will do it in terms of Better Gameplay, and unqiue endgame and etc than what we are currently at now in Shadowlands.

Admittedly, I’ve not really played for most of SL (lots of life stuff going on), but I play because I genuinely find raids (when I enjoy the aesthetic/mechanics of the tier fun) and m+ worthwhile and satisfying of itself. I don’t care about the achievements.

And I keep playing because I really do just enjoy hopping in an M+ run for a while.

And what exactly do you think they’re doing with Dragonriding?

They’ve flat out said that dragonriding may become a permanent addition to WoW depending on player reception. If they love it (and by the sound of it the whole thing is fantastic, and in some ways better than what’s on offer in GW2) then they’ll keep it and start working on making older flying mounts usable within the new system. If it’s not popular then they’ll keep it for Dragonflight only.

Side note, I absolutely love that Blizzard is looking to other MMOs and taking ideas from them to bring into their game. This is how all MMO companies should function. Looking at what works from the competition and making their own versions of that very thing.

Did they actually say this or is this your hope?

Yes, they’ve actually said it.

Dragon riding is an expansion feature, but they would love to explore carrying it forward and using it to make flying better. Mount collections and certain animations not being available for every mount is a concern, but player reaction will ultimately determine if dragon riding becomes a permanent feature in the game.

Fixed it for you.

Well there trying to force me into flying I don’t want so ya I ain’t buying it never liked gw2 flying and quit playing it for a reason now there bringing it here so ya pass.

Well I guess there’s always FFXIV. You’d really prefer’s WoW’s flying over the skyscale? Also the griffon is fun too, just incredibly situational. Combining the two looks fun. But okay. Sorry.

Do you know that Ion said that they’d add tons of FPs in WoD and WoW moving forward to compensate for the initial removal of flying in the expansion? Do you remember going to the enemy territory in early BFA? Or heck, just how spread out some regions of SL were? Do you remember when Ion also said that SL would be “alt friendly” but they decided to frontload a chore that was required in order for a character to be relevant (torghast/SL legendaries)

I mean, that sounds great. But I also feel like if blizz hasn’t explicitly put it into their dev cycle, it’s not happening. If he said it was planned, I’d have some level of hope, but given his track record, I think this is gonna tank and never be seen again. Or maybe they’ll pick it up in 2 expansions so the same team that implemented it can add it broadly. I’d at least expect it missing in the next expansion because of how A and B team work.

TBH I wouldn’t mind them backporting the new flying system to all the old mounts. But let’s be real. It’ll never happen. The ROI just isn’t there. Blizz will always get more ROI on another dungeon or raid vs a full system upgrade like the new flying might be.

Someone over at blizz HQ has to sit in front of the CFO and justify the need for X many dollars for the devs to do the work. And no CFO is gonna sign off on that.

So blizzard is the Thomas Edison of MMORPGS
