Now please explain to me, if limited to sharding for starting zones only for the launch, how this will be community-killing.
Don't draw me into a series of 'what if's they extend it to every other aspect of the game' -- they have specifically tied this to starting zones for launch so far -- explain how sharding "for starting zones, for launch", versus. "let as many people flood those zones, fight over single-server spawns (with normal spawn rates)" will be community detrimental.
I'm honestly very curious to this mindset, since I've experienced both Vanilla and subsequent PServer launches, and definitely don't think trying to make sure the gameplay isn't a clusterfudge is a terrible thing.
