guys is thread ever gonna die. are we gonna be here after release

If Blizzard comes out and states unequivicolly that sharding won't be used in classic I expect the thread will die. Until then I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

Ok I'm gonna say this, and don't for a second confuse this with me saying I like the idea of Sharding.

If Blizzard does what they stated in the Q&A and shards the starting areas (Durotar, Elwynn Forest, ect.) for a few weeks (2-3 weeks) at Launch, what meaningful change is this going to cause over not sharding? Realistically, nothing. In fact realistically this is beneficial as much as I hate it to because all the players who won't put up with the struggles of 2004 in 2018 (which is a !@#$ ton of them) are more likely to stick around and join the community. And 2-3 weeks into launch none of us are going to be raiding Stormwind if they stick true to Vanilla because we'll only be in the mid 30s maybe for those of us who are super devoted and know all the fast quest paths.

So why the hell are we so excessively pissed off over this? I get the idea that "oh if they change one thing they'll change many things" but they've already stated they are trying to get it as close to 1.12 as possible. This choice has absolutely zero effect on the game beyond making sure servers dont' literally explode day one and people aren't chased off by horrid lagfests and needing to fight for quest mobs with 2000 other players. Also servers now have like 40000 people on them, Vanilla servers had a max population of 2000 players on at one time. It is alright to be upset about something but I think everyone needs to take a step back and apply a bit of thought to this. In 2004 we put up with the lagfest and waiting on quest mobs because in 2004 there weren't better options, all MMOs in 2004 were like that.

I, just like everyone else, am not happy about their stance on Sharding the first few weeks, however because it makes sense for them to do so both business and community wise I am willing to concede 2-3 weeks in the starting areas since overall it has absolutely zero effect on the end game and PvP.

I think we as a community should be pushing a message of we will quit if you don't stick to your word because their decision is based off a wish to see this succeed because financially they benefit if it does.
