I know Illidan killed the one from Alternate Draenor during Legion. But how the the actual Gul’dan killed?
He opened the tomb of sargeras and died to the guardian inside of it along w/ the rest of his clan
His clan? Or the shadow council?
Pretty sure according to wc3, it was the rest of the stormreaver clan? I think the majority of the shadow council became death knights or something personally…
Technically he was torn apart by a bunch of insane demons that were in there. Most of the Stormweaver and Twilights Hammer clans died there or got smoked for betraying Doomhammer when they returned.
If you played Warcraft 2 and then Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne, you’ll see the entire fate of our universe’s Gul’dan. Also in Tomb of Sargeras there are runes you can touch to turn into Gul’dan, and his headless skeleton is there too.
Drak’thul from the stormweaver clan is on the Broken Shore too (and he starts the Kosumoth secret boss).
demons tore him apart in tomb of sargeras and then Illidan ate his skull
^ Pretty much all of the above.
Okay.
But why did demons tear them apart inside the tomb?
Gul’dan wanted power and the demons I believe were insane and the eye of sargeras was in there which he was trying to achieve to probably try and overthrow sargeras/kiljaeden or archimonde
That + KJ said he was like checks wowpedia - “YOU DIED BECAUSE YOU BETRAYED US. YOU WERE MEANT TO HELP MY HORDE EXTERMINATE ALL RESISTANCE ON THIS WORLD. YET AT THE MOMENT OF TRUTH, YOU ABANDONED THEM. YOU SPLIT THEIR ARMIES TO CLAIM THIS PLACE. OUR PLANS CAME TO NOTHING. YOU EARNED YOUR FATE.”
Because he wasn’t supposed to be there and he was betraying the Legion to gain personal power. All of this is discussed in the pre-legion audio story, that has alternate universe Gul’dan talking to Kil’Jaeden.
He was searching for an artifact called the Eye of Sargeras. It was supposed to make him as powerful as a god, and he wanted it. But when he opened the tomb, he and his forces were swarmed by the demons that had been trapped in the tomb.
If Gul’dan hadn’t split the Horde forces right then, the orcs would have won the war. (But that’s how the Horde always operates. Internal conflict and faction splits at the moment of triumph. Gul’dan. Garrosh. Sylvanas. All the same kind of story, told in new ways.)
Also Guldan’s treachery prevented the Alliance from being wiped out by the Horde. The orcs were at Lordaeron’s gates but Guldan withdrew his clan and DKs and the Horde was defeated.
