Guilds, Toxicity, and Raiding--And Mythic Lockouts

Absolutely, man. Totally.

Lmao, why lead if there’s no “reward.”

Loot councils either operate by favoritism or what’s best for the guild. You don’t seem to like either one.

Just state your true desire already: a guild that you don’t lead and will give everything to you.

You probably know nothing about the difference between instrinsic vs extrinsic rewards. Second, there are plenty of people who do things because they enjoy it. I healed with a community group for a few months recently, but did not need a single item that dropped or could. It was fun, and I enjoyed it. Maybe you don’t understand that.

Go lead then and stop complaining.

There are plenty of people who want to say what I am saying. And there are plenty of people who like to bully and label anyone who speaks up as someone complaining. Due to being on dead servers and/or having scheduling problems plenty of people have to pug and/or fork out a lot of dough to server transfer. Forking out a lot of dough to transfer your toons is no guarantee either. In some cases it’s just not worth it, and we simply unsub.

I do think it’s rare for people to stumble on an environment that caters specifically to them if they aren’t willing to craft it. Complaining doesn’t do much.

Loot councils tend to operate in two forms:

  1. Favoritism (which is bad.)
  2. Best for guild (which is good.)

Blizzard has made clear that they want to know what people think and are more inclined than ever to make the game better for people. Some of us simply want access to content and see no fair reason as to why we are denied it. It is as simple as that.

If that was the case, pathfinder wouldn’t exist and we would have flying at level cap.

Honestly, if there is good reason to do something, why not do it? I have made plenty of suggestions to Blizzard in game via the Help tab. If you can make a good case for something, they listen, trust me.

As for doing quests to get flying, maybe it frustrates a lot of people, maybe not. In my case, it makes no difference and is not a source of frustration. I would also say that doing the quest line, etc, is something to work towards with a great reward, so it doesnt matter. Not having access to major end game content is plainly an obvious frustration for a lot, and is good reason to get bored and unsub. Some of us have worked extremely hard to get our characters uber geared and are bored of doing the same three bosses with groups that are way undergeared compared to us, and we can’t find guilds on our servers. Hence we start with alts, but get bored doing the same routine with new toons only to see the same end result.

You don’t sound like a very nice person.

I find that more often than not it’s people who aren’t very nice to others that ruin group activities.

That’s exactly right. Take my recent experience. I helped a group offering up my keys and healing them doing heroic raids for a few months to get them geared for mythic. Then when cross server opened and on our first regular raid night, all of a sudden I go to our discord room and see they are all in a locked room and I am locked out. Then when I whisper one of them I discover it was all arranged by the guild leader who not so much as mentioned a word about it to me. I had a new toon in the guild I was going to play in Shadowlands in the guild. Then when I joined another group and told them about it I got scolded for it and was told I was to not join another group and was to sit on the bench until needed. Yeah, right. I promptly left the guild and the community and joined another group.

How is it fair that the guild leader just shuts you out after all that you did for the group? Not a word to you and then you are shut out of discord suddenly? Then you are expected you to not join another group? And you are the best geared of the lot with the highest raider .io score? You have joined these guys for a few months and not a word.

To make matters worse, I later sent the guild leader a note thinking that maybe I was rash, but then got the reply back that I was a nobody, a nothing.

Yeah. It’s true some leaders have some bad manners, but this person takes the cake. Hence, why would I want to bother with a guild? This is typical in my experience, to be honest.

People don’t want to lead and complain about others that do. Yes, there are bad leaders, and some of it might be due to inexperience. Other leaders aren’t bad, but they are vilified because they didn’t give one or two people what they want.

Well, maybe you have been a guild leader, maybe not. I have not, but I have led a lot of raids. In my experience you be nice to everyone. You make access to content and gear fair. Otherwise you make enemies–well, maybe not enemies, but you leave a bad taste in people’s mouths. That is not me. I have been a career teacher and coach, in real life. Being unfair and/or unkind to just one person in a thousand can come back to bite you every time.

I tried leading guilds in the past and it wasn’t too successful. Who cares about making enemies? I draw the line at actively deceiving people and ninja looting.
Reserving loot is fair game.

The above post was edited. Take note.

The issue I see with the entire scenario is that an outdated arbitrary system, a la master loot (single mythic lockout) creates scenarios that negatively impact player interactions with no upside.

Yes, people chose what to do when these arbitrary limitations are imposed on them, but why should they be forced to make those decision when vastly improved systems already coexist in the game?

Dynamic raid lockouts are simply an improved system.

This thread has the usual suspects advocating for their secret garden, where only the people they deem worthy are allowed to enter, that paradigm needs to be shattered and the power should be removed from the few gatekeepers and placed in the hands of individuals so that they have the ability to determine their own level of engagement.

Once the race is over, and the Hall of Fame is closed, remove single instance lockouts for mythic raiding. It’s the right thing to do for people who just want to play the game without all the nonsense.

I do not see the difference.

Absolutely. You hit the nail on the head. This is exactly right.

Honestly, my friends list has steadily seen fewer and fewer logging in to play wow in recent weeks. It peeked around the time cross server opened and has been going downhill since. I think everyone has better things to do than subject themselves to frustration.

Mythic lock out should work exactly like heroic lockout once cross realm mythic is enabled.

I don’t think so. Rarity of achievements is a good thing. I’d rather have it available at next tier.
