Guilds attacking cities

I remember watching these old videos from the early days of this game where guilds from both the Alliance and Horde would ride off and attack the cities such as Stormwind and Ogrimmar in an attempt to either occupy them or kill as many enemies as possible.

Is it still possible to raid the opposing cities these days? Or has Blizzard updated the game to make it impossible?

The servers never could handle it well, now a days it is pointless anyways. You kill all the AH vendors in one city, people just use a teleport to another.

That was so fun. On Thrall large groups of players met in Org by the AH and we’d all go slaughter SW. Hella fun! Or Alliance would show up at Orgs front gates and the battle would begin! Ahhh the good ole days! :sunglasses:

Do people even attack cities anymore? I don’t recall the last time I saw people going for the black war bear.

we used to occupy the inn in goldshire. or the inn at the back of the mage quarter of SW. just sit in there and fight all comers. Never killed the AH or anything like that.

Back then you would march from the front gates slowly making your way to the enemy faction leader.

Now you just fly to the faction leader kill them and fly out.

Whenever I’ve seen a invasion (since I started in legion) they kinda just kill the boss and get out. Prolly not as fun and rewarding anymore like this.

Wpvp has died due to neglect and blizzards incompetence. ED was a thriving wpvp community but largely moved to Grob, thanks to warmode and sharding,

of course it is.

just yesterday, an all-bear alliance raid took over orgrimmar.

It’s possible. As of WOTLK though the main reason was to kill the Leader / King of the city. If you killed all 4 you got a black war bear mount.

I don’t know how difficult or easy it is compared to back then. THe last time I participated in a city raid was cataclysm. It was fun. I don’t think we killed Varian but the fights between our two groups (alliance defense and horde offense) were really fun.

must be because we get ogrimmar attacks every so often. I used to switch over to pvp and play along, but it got boring pretty quick.

Happens every other night on Wyrmrest Accord.

Horde takes a part of Stormwind, holds it until they’re wiped out.

They’re all in HFP

I did it with a random pug a few weeks ago and got FOR THE HORDE achiv.

possible.

We did a full raid on all the leaders one time a very long time ago. A pair of rogues and a warlock snuck into a little building in Ironforge in one case, summoned the entire raid into the building, and just before we set out to attack Magni a guy happened to walk inside the building and our cover was blown. Man. The amount of chaos that ensued was hilarious as we pushed our way to the throne room and killed everything inside of it.

Shadows of Death attacks Stormwind (and the other cities) all the time!

Here’s one of our more recent endeavors…

Sry for the spelling error
This was a specific target on a specific realm.
Enjoy

it was quite prevalent in Cataclysm using the ‘Have Group Will Travel’ guild perk.

i would typically be on a lowbie alt doing the cooking/fishing dailies and see the defense channel light up with under attack spam.

last recent one i noticed was a guild of about 7 members taking down the Stormwind keep throne room then wiping out the Dwarven district, a few months ago. only like three attempted to thwart them and were always pwnt

There’s always gankers in the SW portal room on my server. Capital guards are pretty much there for show now.

Yes. During early BFA alli would form raid groups to invade horde cities. Other than that, people are just not as interested in invading Cities as they used to.

Now players only do things like that if there are rewards or achievements involved.

If Moon Guard’s Goldshire still exists, I assume you can still have fun as a Horde WPvPer there too.
