Hello! So, sometime ago I became under the assumption that guild websites had fallen away, and discord had taken their place. Back in 2008 or so I remember being a part of a guild that had a website that took care of various things in the guild. I also remember that there was a forum for character backstories and short stories. Is that null and void of late or are there still guilds who use these?

most guilds use carrd as an info site now if they have a site at all, I think shivtr sites are really cool but probably a lot more work than carrd. with discord’s channels/threads/forums now I can see why it’s replaced traditional websites for guilds. I do like it when a guild has at least a public carrd site though, it’s a good way to offer a glimpse into the vibes

Most guilds have given up on using sites. As Mythoris mentioned, some use Carrd; but Discord has become the de facto method for organizing and staying in touch outside of the game.
There are a few guilds still using guild sites though. The one that comes to mind is Silver Circle. If you ask me, their site is super pretty, impressive, and very functional in ways Discord and Carrd just aren’t. I do wish guild sites would make a resurgence. I always found their forums easier to keep up with than the endless flowing oceans of text across multiple channels in Discord. I also liked how detailed the pages could get – almost like a handbook to the guild with multiple sections and subsections – more than they tend to on most Carrd sites.
But alas, I think that ship has sailed. And so onward into the hectic land of Discord we continue.

I’ve been building something for my guild using Notion, and also been making an in-game Guild Guide/Rulebook and all of that using TRP3 Extended.
It is a basic handout that I can give to people in character, but it always has all the guild info in it as well.
Shivtr still exists; Enjin ( one of the more popular choices) has died

It’s not necessarily a null and void choice, but people tend to prefer to keep using services they use often, and Shivtr/websites are more of an adjustment than using Discord and Carrd.
But that might be a draw for some people. Who wants to be in a billion Discord servers for every facet of their hobby?

I can only echo what has already been said above. Most guilds use Discord for their guild information/communication. Every now and then when I stumble upon a guild who uses something besides Discord, it’s typically a carrd site.
I must say, I hate the idea of using Discord as your primary or only place for guild info or communication. It’s fine enough for the folks who’re already in to chat or get updates, but someone just looking to learn about the guild, what they’re about and what they’ve done, it’s quite poor. I don’t want to have to join a new server and potentially go through a bunch of other crap just to have the opportunity to decide if it’s the right place for me, and I can think of few places that are worse for archiving stories or other kinds of long form posts. Overall, this shift in preference just makes finding guilds more of a hassle than it’s worth to me.

I absolutely share these sentiments, Yonara. I do not like Discord for various reasons and so many guilds hard-line require it that I just do not even bother with guilds anymore. I want guild information to be readily accessible before I talk to anyone or join anything, especially if it means that people would have the ability to bother me outside of the game.
When I ran my own guild, I used Shivtr and loved it. As a total beginner, I found it easy, user-friendly, and highly customizable to convey as much or as little information desired. I miss the heyday of guild websites.
Other than World’s End Tavern: Role-play and Fan Fiction which was used for such more often, there is moon-guard.fandom.com/wiki/Main_Page. Tumblr also used to be more popular than it is now. I seem to think that there was another website (or two) that people used for character backstories and short stories but I am not sure.
