Guild Wars 2 does pvp better

True story.

I agree but there are some classes in that game that are completely broken. The Engi Burst Gyro Scrapper build has a ton of invincibility, damage and escapes. I would have rather dealt with Scourges but the current Meta is what made me quit PvP in GW2. Really miss the days of Greatsword Guardian, it was a cool concept but completely useless now.

All 19 guild wars players across the globe are having a blast

I had a ton of fun in gw2 pvp back at launch (haven’t really played much since then) and it’s just funny to me that everyone loves gw2 and yet no one plays gw2.

Hell of a hot take. Did all handful of y’all get together and take a poll?

at least GW is balanced for the entire server of 10 players

Unbelievably true. Level 1s can instantly queue into PvP and be on the same playing field as everyone else, can pick and choose/fine tune their build as much as they like without spending any gold on top of unlocking every single ability to play however they want. Gw2 might not be as popular but its easily THE superior/best version of MMO PvP by a landslide.

The combat is so poorly designed in comparison to WoW though

Assuming that GW2 PvP is way superior, but it is way way way less popular of a MMO comparing to WoW. This just means PvP doesn’t matter in MMO and has little influence on the player count. This is a good enough reason for the devs to almost ignore this aspect of the game.

Lmao. The same game that removed HealVin from all PvP because people don’t have the brain capacity to stun and burst them when they have a 35 energy stunbreak?

Next you’re going to say Ret is balanced rn.

As a long time GW2 player that has reached top 10 in PvP, GW2 does certain things better and certain things worse.

The good:

GW2 has literally zero barrier to entry. You can complete the tutorial in 5 minutes and play PvP. It’s a way better system than WoW, where you have to level a character from 0 to 70 and then grind gear to start playing ranked PvP.

GW2 has lower queue times despite a much lower population, because there are no healers. Healer players are gonna be mad at me, but I think a GW2 type system where every class has self sustain is great because you can just play whatever you want in PvP and don’t need to wait for anyone. You still have the option to play a viable support spec, it’s just that you’re not completely focused on healing, you also do decent damage and have other utility.

GW2 combat is great. I don’t think it’s better than WoW, it’s just different. GW2 is more focused on mechanical skill and reaction time, but still rewards game knowledge.

The bad:

If you think WoW PvP balance is bad, the last time I played GW2 the dominant spec was scepter fresh air catalyst. Basically this spec had the highest burst in the game, had up to 3 different full invulnerabilities, had projectile reflection, had constant blinds that made enemies miss their abilities, and had high mobility. There was not a single spec in the game that could beat a good catalyst in 1v1. The top 25 on the leaderboard consisted of roughly 15 catalysts, out of the 27 specs in the game. The monthly tournament team in EU won with 5 catalysts and the NA team won with 3 catalysts. They took 2 months to nerf this spec. Say what you want about Blizzard, they nerfed ret in 4 days. Arenanet has the worst balancing, possibly of any game to ever exist.

The population is low, so the matchmaking is completely fried. You can be a top 10 player and queue up and get matched with and against players that aren’t even in the top 250. This also leads to a lot of match manipulation, where people queue at off hours and are guaranteed to face each other and/or face South American/Chinese players with 200 ping and completely stomp them for free rating.

Overall I’m probably going to stick with WoW now that we have shuffle. Despite the queue times I think WoW is just a better game with developers that are more competent and care more about PvP. WoW also probably has 10x the PvP population if not more.

To be fair in both directions it has been nakedly insufficient

I’ve played GW2 since release.

GW2 has the worst PvP in the genre.
No one dies, everyone has infinite sustain and anyone can run away from anyone because of insane mobility creep and the fact CC basically doesn’t exist.

The only thing it does right is zero gear gaps.

funniest joke ive read all year

Care to actually provide any counter arguments? As I said I’ve been top 10 on the PvP leaderboard. My opinions aren’t formed after playing for a few days, I played GW2 for thousands of hours over many years.

apples and oranges

I felt GW2’s ideas for pvp were better than what WoW was doing.

But I didn’t stick with the game for long because I always felt that nobody could touch Blizzard on sheer polish.

age of conan will kill wow

The downstate mechanic is obnoxious

Yeah I completely agree.
