Our Guild Master was absent for one month and an unknown individual within the guild was able to gather enough power to kick all of the members and keep the guild for themselves.
I was wondering if there is any way to restore the guild or have this power taken away from this individual so that we can invite ourselves back to the guild.
It seems like it would be difficult for Blizzard to help with this matter but I thought it would be worth a try and to see if anyone else has experienced similar events.
After so long being gone any member can kick the GM. It is to prevent the other guildies from losing a guild because the leader decided to stop playing.
Best chance is just asking for it back but after the person kicked everyone I doubt that will happen.
This means the “unknown individual” was in the guild the longest and active… when the GM hasn’t been online after a couple months (i forget if it’s 2 or 3 months), the GM position automatically gets passed off to the next member who’s been in the guild the longest and is active.
So unfortunately if this member decides to boot everyone, nothing you can do but cut your losses and simply just create a new guild maybe with a similar name and just invite anyone you know who was kicked.
After 3 months of an inactive GM the option to take the guild master position is available for any player in the ranks 2-4 of the guild. Usually most setups will have this be an officer.
However I do not think blizzard is likely to restore anyone as technically nothing wrong occurred.
the gm position is passed off to the next longest active, isn’t “available to any player” as there is no options for any player to accept/claim it.
Anyways, I know this is how it works because I have 2 accounts my alt created a guild, was GM, and i had invited toons from this account to it, and eventually i stopped subbing on my second account and eventually one day my character here was GM of the guild (no heads up or anything).
how else would that “unknown player” get gm unless the gm unsubbed, lol. Anything short of stealing the GM’s account, or the GM passing it off to them, then the GM would still be GM,
so obviously must’ve been unsubbed longer than the OP thinks for someone else to claim it or the GM legitimately passed GM to a random player Or maybe it’s an alt of the GM and they are clearing out their guild.
It doesn’t matter if the guild leader is subbed or not. The only criteria that must be met in order to trigger the dethrone feature is 90 days of inactivity on the guild leader character.
If an inactive guild leader is dethroned, the same thing applies to the new guild leader. There is no functionality that allows for the previous guild leader to reclaim the guild, other than for the new guild leader to choose to give it back, or to wait for the new guild leader to go inactive for 90 days (assuming the new guild leader didn’t demote you out of the three eligible guild ranks).
If you were inactive for longer than 90 days and another guild member took the leadership of your guild, talk to the new Guild Master. If the new Guild Master doesn’t want to give you the leadership back, Customer Support will not intervene. Check our Guild Dethrone article for more information.
When I first started playing, I was in a really friendly and talkative guild. I haven’t had the same experience since. It made me sad when the GM just never logged back on anymore and everyone just kinda left.
