I joined a heroic SOD guild group for Soulrender as heals, since they were short. Run went smoothly, one shot the boss. Then without notice, all puggees who weren’t part of the guild get booted from the raid, discord and everything, including myself.
My mouth was wide open for like a minute. I understand it’s their group so their rules but, rude much?
Yeah, yeah dear diary and all but I just thought it was an outrageous and weirdly funny story worth sharing.
Its not uncommon they might have been done for the night. Alot of pug groups dont consider the extra players as actual people your just bodies to fill in some spots they need covered for this boss and they will replace you after if they dont need you.
Mythic guilds that pug a couple of trials are better as they are usually looking for new members but normal/heroic pugs your just bodies to throw at the boss so the raid lead can get his loot.
Super bizarre, even if they were done for the night you would think they’d say thank you to the pugs since they literally couldn’t kill the boss without you.
Only other reason I could think was they had guildies come online to replace you with but also the normal thing would just be to take 10 seconds to explain that to the pugs, thank them, and then start to remove.
Or the raid lead is just ego trippin and thinks he’s cool for booting people without any warning.
Think its what above have said. They probably only needed you and the others for that boss. There ganna stop there (werid to kick and not just say “we are done for now”), try the next boss without the pugs (last boss may of been a machanice or dps check when the next isn’t/is a different check) or new guildys came on and will take your spot, or as the guild member thinks, you are in a fellow guildys spot (insert Sheldon “your in my spot” gif)
Sadly you got to suck it up and move on. It’s always the risk you run with doing pugs
We’ve had to pug off and on the past couple weeks. Sometimes it’s a tank, or a couple healers or DPS, but we always thank them for coming. And if they were decent, at least one of us usually shoots them a friend request so we can invite them back if we find ourselves in need of help or just want to keep bringing them because they were chill.
I pug alot. It can go many ways. Lets say we are relatively successful and down bosses. Most times, people are polite, and explain why people are removed.
Maybe they were just clearing to a certain point, and then bringing in Guildies for later bosses. I mean, they could have said that from the start, but maybe it would have been hard to fill the spots.
Not to sound callous, but I would suggest building a thick skin when it comes to pugging. A lot of Guild Groups that need a couple fill ins like to say : “Pugs arent people.” Just know and expect that.
It makes me appreciate the nicer groups all the more.
But if they weren’t, it’s very standard for guilds not seeking to use pugs as regular backup raiders to clear their Discord and all that after the night is over.
The most likely scenario is that they had enough time for a few pulls or whatever but were short a healer. It’s, unfortunately, very common for guilds pugging slots to be rigid with their stop time but still be totally willing to pull people in despite quitting time being in 26 minutes.
The only reason I can think of that they’d kick all the pugs but keep raiding is if there’s a specific boss that doesn’t scale down well to smaller groups. That’s been a fairly common issue since Blizzard started designing around 20-man Mythic or whatever. You can -technically- field a 10-man raid, but mechanics and healer expectations don’t scale down to properly accommodate it all the time. I feel like it’s more likely they’d just pug more members, period, rather than waste time jumping up and down in member count based on the boss, though.
i don’t know if it’s rare but we don’t do it. we actually tend to ask pugs to stick around if they’re a good fit. we’ve gained a number of great new guildies that way.
