Actually, not being able to see a mail that you have received the notification (minimap icon) for is a result of having the sender on /ignore.

So according to Blizzard, it does still send but remains hidden while the person has you on /ignore. They can, of course, remove you from /ignore, read it and then add you back.

Huh. That’s interesting. I tested it out myself and that is indeed the case – I had my bank alt ignore one of my other characters, then sent mail from said character to the bank alt. After collecting my AH proceeds on the bank alt, I still saw a “You have unread mail” indicator with no indication as to who it came from.

…why is that a thing? Shouldn’t it hide the mail icon if you only have mail from someone you have on ignore, or, better yet, outright disallow sending mail to someone who has you on ignore?
