Guild Bank Missing Items Bug -- Aug/Sept 2024

Where did I ever say anything remotely close to what you are insinuating?
:joy:

Are y’all even reading before replying to me?
I literally said hoarding can happen in video games and I also said I am guilty of hoarding in video games as well.

That is the tl;dr.

Thank you Blizzard for either closing or moving all threads about this topic to the general discussion forum - NOT!
Now the trolls have taken over.

I’m going to give them a little while longer to rethink what’s happened here, and if the status quo remains, I will make a little video of methodically deleting my stuff, characters, and account, and that will be the end of 16 years of WoW.

I spend some of my life on games, and I expect that the vendor I am using will respect that I am using up my irreplaceable life on their product because it’s a good one.

This is at the moment not a good product and not a good expenditure of my life.

Honestly, I’m going back and forth at the moment whether “a little while longer” might be “later tonight.” This is just abysmal.

There were problems with the warband bank. It was delayed. And fixed.

There were problems with cross-realm trading. It was temporarily disabled. And fixed.

There were problems with cross-realm guilds. They were delayed. And turned on. And no one checked to see if it might have gone wrong.

We (family member and I) were just talking about leaving as well. One of our accounts runs out at the end of December, the other one is on a 1-month-sub and we’ll cancel it so it’ll end around that time as well.
We will leave after 17 years. We always loved this game, but we both can’t take how Blizzard continuously mistreats the game and the customers anymore. This definitely isn’t an easy decision, but we think it’s necessary for our own mental well-being.

That’s basically where I am now. My account is paid until the latter half of January anyway, so I’m going to play until then. But what I do from that point will depend on a lot of factors.

If they don’t do something pretty soon, it’s going to cause a mass exodus that could very well be the end of the game.

Is anyone else in the category of a total guild bank wipe coupled with receiving zero items back? Still haven’t gotten an email from Blizzard.

When they said this expansion was going to feature bugs, this isn’t what I expected.

I just cancelled my annual sub renewal in january and fully informed them in the reasoning that it was purely from the loss of trust in them and the game that I love with how they’ve handled this issue. Gonna keep spamming here and twitter in hopes they will do better, but not holding my breath.

Will it, though? Blizzard knows how many accounts were affected. If 10,000 guild vaults were wrecked and 10,000 players quit, they won’t even notice.

Will players who weren’t affected quit out of “solidarity”? I doubt that will be a factor.

If Blizzard wants to just let this roll and let the players who are unhappy go their way, the loss of subscribers probably won’t be an issue.

The game press doesn’t seem interested, so I doubt that’s going to get traction either.

Basically, it comes down to whether Blizzard is going to treat affected players like Blizzard always has treated players in the past – that is, to go the distance to make things right and make players whole.

I think in this case, they will not, and sadly for players but beneficially for Blizzard, the negative consequences for Blizzard will be negligible.

– And that last blue message was complete :chicken::poop: (chicken chocolate ice cream). Just terrible. Would have been better never being said. I understand it’s not that blue poster’s personal decision to make that communication in that way, but that doesn’t in any way excuse the utterly reptilian message it delivered.

It’s a bad item in the code, usually overlooked that can create small or catastrophic results. Losing stuff in a video game? SMALL. Bug in the chemo machine that killed people in the 80s, or destroyed the $1B prototype Ariane 5 rocket in less than 60 seconds after launch? HUGE. All about perspective, which seems to be missing in some cases.

I’ll chime in with my two cents here. I have multiple guilds for storage, as I tend to squirrel things away just in case I need something. One of them was completely wiped out, while the rest are as far as I can tell untouched.

I’ve been playing WOW for seventeen years, so I know things can and do happen. As unfortunate as that is, it is just part of life. This time though is an exception, as the response from Blizzard has been tepid at best. As of yet I have not seen any items restored, even though I can look on the log of my guild bank and see at least some of the items it contained before the expansion.

I couldn’t put a value on what I had in there, as I honestly couldn’t tell you exactly what I had or the current market value. I did have some letters my son sent me many years ago when he played, and I had saved copies and kept. Sentimental, I know. That these may be gone I can accept. What has me frustrated is the poor response by Blizzard. This clearly has effected quite a few people, it isn’t some small glitch. Will we be made whole? It certainly doesn’t look like it right now.

As a paying customer, I know that not everything is perfect, mistakes are made and in the end we are all human. But this as it has been handled so far is abysmal at best. I hope someone will realize this and rectify the situation.

“Fixed”. It wasn’t really. They still never confirmed if the bug I reported has been resolved. The original one, for unique or stack limit items, was fixed though.

I don’t trust them with items and I’m too afraid to test the waters.

Yes.

This combination of silence, followed by unsympathetic messaging, accompanied by no attempt to make players feel whole in some way, any way at all, is nothing like anything I’ve ever seen happen in WoW. Historically, Blizzard has been incredibly responsive and a pleasure to deal with as a customer. I think it may be the start of a new era in which this is no longer the case.

You can be sure that if Blizzard just lets this go, as they seem poised to do, that:

  • These kinds of major issues brought on by process problems will continue
  • The response to affected players will be just as unsatisfying
  • Sooner or later, whoever you are, you’ll be one of those players

You post a lot.

Yep, and then when something happens like this, the first people to yell are the ones with like 3 personal guilds and banks for stuff they have been squirrelling away since Vanilla.

There’s a reason for that, though. The people who aren’t ‘squealing’ are the people with dummy guilds or empty guild banks. It’s sort of obvious.

You do realize that this can and will happen again, and the next time it may be something you consider valuable, whether that be an achievement, mount, mog, whatever. And if/when that moment comes, I hope you get a better response from Blizzard than this, and I hope that you will know that the reason they put in more effort on your issue is because we are not letting this very similar instance be swept under the rug. Because once again, it’s not the meaningless mats that are the larger issue, it’s what happens in the future when they know they can be careless with our data and memories because people like you told us to shut up and move on.

But it cements the proof that the only people still barking even after the fix was addressed are the hoarders who want everything back. My point ultimately, as I am over this circular tangent of a thread is simply this:

A bug occurred. They have finally identified it. There is only so much they can do to prioritize it. Not everyone is gonna be happy. But getting whipped into a frenzy over some pixels shows how detached from reality and perspective some of these people truly are.

And when it does, I will be pissed for an hour and move on. It’s a game.
