Lol, that is an accomplishment in itself! Getting people to sign charters nowadays must be 10 times harder as there are less people in the starting zones!
I’ll never understand “personal” guilds beyond a desire to cut out guild spam whispers from addons until you happen upon one you might actually want to join.
If it’s just you and your alts or a close friend / SO for years… why bother? You absolutely have contact outside of guild chat, so why not try to find a more lively place together? You can put it in another chat tab if you don’t -always- want to be that active.
I guess if you treat it as a solo / LAN only type of game it doesn’t hurt, but idk it’s just a weird concept to me.
Its a good question. There have been times where we have taken 1 or 2 of our characters out of the guild to join other guilds when we wanted to try our hand at raiding, etc. , but having our guild to come back to was always nice.
At this point it is pretty much just nostalgic, and, we actually use a couple of communities to connect for 5-mans, raids, etc. when we want to be social. Just a different play style though.
Also, we have friends that keep their characters there that will come back every once in a while for a few months, always nice to have them back when they come.
TLDR version: Nostalgia
Edit: Oh yeah, and also the guild perks like the guild bank, guild mail, hasty hearth, etc. Nice to have those too!
My guild was formed in the days leading up to Kara, started 10 man raiding Kara, moved into 25 man with ssc, and raided 25 heroic every tier until 20 mythic became a thing.
We’ve server transferred twice, from gorgonnash to cenarius to proudmoore, and name changed with those transfers… So there’s no single server history.
But I have group kill shots from every raid boss since Attumen on our website. Years and years of dead bosses!
Demented Unity was first seen April 16, 2005 according to Warcraft Realms.
It’s been in continuous existence since then, sometimes more active, sometimes less so, sometimes just as a meeting place when players come back to check out what WoW is doing.
Original Guild name was Gold Dragon Flight created during Vanilla. Reorganized and are now now Semper Fortis which was created on Nov 21, 2007. I can’t include links in my posts unfortunately.
It doesn’t show up on WarcraftRealms, but I have a guild on Frostmane called The Phoenix Lords (yes it’s corny, we were teenagers) that’s existed since at least early 2006, possibly late 2005, based on one of the characters on its roster that hasn’t signed on in 13 years. It never went anywhere and just serves as a parking lot for a bunch of lowbies that belong to myself, my brother, and an old friend of mine who I’m not sure even plays anymore.
It no longer exists, but before The Phoenix Lords when this character was about level 25 I created a guild on Bleeding Hollow called Knights of Azeroth (more corn), if I recall correctly. It flopped hard and I ended up leaving or disbanding it at level 35 to join The Twilight Order.
