The New Guide system is a great idea, but so far as the “new players”, all I’ve seen is bots, trolls, bankers, and people spam selling services and 0 actual new players with the Murloc Icon.
I say this because you might really push people away from the system who want to help new players because it’s unfiltered.
Because at this point it just feels like they are using it as a tag to stand out in chat better to sell services.
Other direction. It’s not the guides. It’s the new players. In short, people are making spoof accounts, and then flooding the guide chat with things against ToS.
I’ve gone out to starting areas and the first zones a few times on toons that I signed up to be a guide on, and so far I’ve only seen one murloc head. I was going to see if they needed help, but they had a non-guide friend already with them helping out.
Maybe later there’ll be more people to help, but it seems not right now. And since the system is only good for new players to level 20, it’s not like I’ll see these folks out and about unless I’m leveling a brand new toon. You don’t often even make it to Org or SW before level 20.
Maybe the chat will help, but I still seem to be helping people out that just whisper me in major cities or who I see asking basic questions in general or trade chat at much higher levels than 20.
I’m starting to think this is another example of the Blizz meme of “good idea but poor execution.”
I agree. They should also let you do it if you have a high enough /played. I didn’t do much competitive pvp, raids, or m+ this xpac but I’d still like to guide the little ones. Heh, I show em a good time, that’s for sure.
so far it has been a mix back have helped quite a few in the newcomer channel but I have also seen the sellers there advertising or seen them in /1 or /2 as well with the murloc symbol next to the name. I hope blizz cracks down on that
I didn’t realize it only applies to players 20 and under… that seems like a pretty big waste. Players should be able to use it until they chose to leave the mentor system the way the mentors can. I guess Blizz think new players won’t have questions after a few hours of playing
Or perhaps until the player gets a toon up to max level the first time? Hopefully by then they’ve made some in game friends or joined a guild and can get help from that point on.
However, I’ve spent a fair amount of time the last couple of months helping out returning players already at max level catch up on BfA or the last content patch or two of BfA and they were all a bit overwhelmed by all the systems they had to deal with.
I think the level 20 limit comes from Blizz’s data that says that the vast majority of people that try out WoW for the first time don’t even make it to level 20. But if this system gets them to level 20, then what gets them the rest of the way, not to mention all the stuff at max level?
Just seems like a good idea that wasn’t really fully thought out or properly implemented.
Hey! I want to become a guide and I have all the required achieves for it. When I go to become one, I can’t click " Become A Mentor " – it’s grey out. Is there a reason for this? Any tips will help! Thanks
