Guardian question

What’s the best way to go about a big pull and keep yourself alive until you stabilize?

I’m new to tanking and I’m trying to find the best way to go about larger pulls.

I just find it tough sometimes to get over the initial damage when I don’t have enough rage for iron fur. Doesn’t seem like that extra armor would help much but man it really does

If you don’t have rolling IF on you, pop a defensive on the way in to lower the initial spike damage that’s going to be coming in.

I like to use wild charge → Barkskin or Rage for bigger pulls, and get that 1-2 stacks of IF rolling ASAP

Barkskin with talents is a 32s cooldown, so it should be ready for the start of each pull. Once you get the tier set, keeping the absorb up is pretty simple with is also a 20% DR effectively, so between that being up and Barkskin, beginning of pulls usually aren’t too bad.

I also macro’d bristling fur to RoTS so I can get the extra rage generation to help build to tier set shield and extend rage of the sleeper.

Big pulls on 20s with fortified I’ll actually blow survival instincts as I gather mobs. And I almost never start pulls without barkskin.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated :blush:

One more question if you don’t mind; How do I best utilize incarnation? It’s a weird cd that’s both offensive and defensive. Do I just feel it out and use as necessary?

Yes and no. I like mine on the big big pulls.

With Vicious Cycle and Tooth and Claw procs you spam mangle and Raze and IF (since it’s off the GCD) and between the damage reduction from stacks of IF and the massive UF shields you’re creating, it’s a great defensive tool.

And with running GG and TW you’ve got Moonfire popping off, and Thorns of Iron adding in huge chunks of damage as well, you pump out a crap ton of DPS as well.

I like to macro Nature’s Vigil with Incarn and do awesome healing on top of After the Wildfire procs

Try not to hold it for very long. I only hold it if I know a fortified tough pull is coming up or a tyrannical boss.

I try not to save it for too long unless I know there is a big pull I want to make coming up. Like the hall on BRH before the last stairs with boulders. if I save incarn for that pull, I can usually pull the entire hall pretty easily with a good group.

My only issue is that most of the dungeons this season have mobs spread out and have casters/ranged mobs, limited LOS opportunities, and it makes making double and triple pulls a bit tougher to pull off as a guardian.
