After having quit my Guardian for months, I decided to come back and quickly get keystone master on it. I have timed 2x15s and 2x16s so far. The reason I am doing keystone master on the druid (despite having quit it) is just due to it’s gear being better than my new main and the pre-patch is dropping soon.
I quit Gdruid because it is bad and now getting worse.
On weeks like necrotic, without both typhoon and vortex 5 mans will move much slower. I can pull dangerous packs and live because I can control the chaos with these two abilities. Only having one ability means dying more or going slower.
Considering Guardian Druids are not meta, and are quite garbage why is one of these abilities essentially being PRUNED? during the great UNPRUNING?
Yikes, does blizzard even play this class? I mean basically we get a new 30% heal, which is probably better for raids than for M+ when compared to typhoon and vortex. I mean if druids got ALL THREE (heal, typhoon, vortex) I really DO NOT think they will be the best tank in the game.
I don’t actually disagree that Guardian could use all of those things and not be overpowered, but to play Devil’s advocate a bit: you used Necrotic as an example. Necrotic is not a “tank” affix, that the tank needs to be able to handle on their own. It is just as much the rest of the group’s job as yours to make sure you can clear stacks. Take a deep breath and be glad you aren’t a DK.
Doesnt death and decay slow, allowing for kiting to drop stacks though? Genuine question.
If you were refering to the reduction in healing, and that being the main form of mitigation for dk, i can see that being a real hard week for them, since it would affect both the heal portion of deathstrike as well as the protection bubble.
But tbf, VDK is hit pretty hard by this. So is bear. Half of bear’s mitigation is the self-heal, and the mastery is also a heal. So who really has it worse? Toss up imo.
Yes to both; reliance on self-healing combined with lack of mobility. The DnD talent starts at 90% slow and decays, and it’s also in the same talent row as the only decent movement speed ability DKs have access to.
I would take DnD’s what, 90%?, persistent slow over the Ursol’s/Typhoon combo.
I’m also fine with them making it a choice between Ursol’s and Typhoon, but only if we get some sort of movement/kiting subsidy returned to us. This could be either a slightly reworked Wild Charge becoming baseline, or having Thrash apply a slow debuff.
Though this only really matters if it’s going to be a kite fiesta meta again in high keys. Who knows, maybe with target cap and smaller pulls we won’t need much kiting outside of Necrotic weeks.
Guardian doesn’t need Typhoon and Vortex. It’s a neat little combo that makes for some really clean AoE pulls, but it’s far from necessary. I almost never take Vortex just because I hate not having charge. I doubt I’m alone in that.
Perhaps YOU don’t need both. But I am constantly using both, most of the time not as a combo, but one after the other so that I can pull packs more quickly and aggressively. But druid isn’t meta, and anything that removes a tool from a weaker spec should be questioned.
Again having access to all three will not suddenly make Druid meta, probably wouldn’t even make it “average”. Having all three also really does not impact raiding, only M+.
On live, this week I used all three pretty much every pack. I timed 8/12 keystone master and did AOTC after taking a break since FEB. I will get the last four keystone masters some time next week.
I used roar, vortex AND typhoon pretty much every pack. Not having one would make things more difficult. I mean druid is not GREAT right now, there is no reason to remove tools. I could see if druid was OP meta tank, but it is not. ANY decrease in power right now makes no sense, regardless of how much you perceive that decrease to be.
It will make my play style much more difficult to not have all the current tools.
Anyway, I am switching to BDK for pre patch. DKs are literally getting like 5 or so new spells ALL good for tanking in the pre patch. Gdruid is getting what? cat moves, an extra potion button and cyclone??? and getting typhoon removed?
Cyclone is garbage for M+ it is like 6(or 8?) seconds and can ONLY BE CAST IN HUMAN FORM. How is this good for M+? or raiding really.
If cyclone lasted 30 seconds to 60 seconds then maybe you could use it on pull to remove a threat for a while, but it doesnt work like that. by the time you have collected aggro the mob you cloned will be out and running after the healer or something.
Yeah I got confused because I main boomy and balance does get it baseline so if i take resto affinity I will get both. I kinda hate that guardian doesn’t get that combo as its arguably more useful to them.
Guardian could use a lot of things, but all indications are that they’re not getting anything at all. In an expansion with an emphasis on unpruning, we are only losing useful things, whole gaining stuff we can’t even use within our role as tank.
Where is our aoe taunt? Every single tank had got theirs back, haven’t they? I know paladin has theirs, pretty sure warrior has theirs, pretty sure that mass grip has a taunt affect, does monk have a true mass taunt?
Where is our slow? Far as I’m aware, we are the only tank without a baseline slow.
Where is our magic damage mitigation? Our physical mitigation isn’t even particularly impressive, not outside small windows that we can pump 3 ironfur stacks.
What is the point of guardian druid at this stage? It is looking more and more likely that the theory of them prepping to delete the spec/roll it back into feral is looking more likely.
It’s been literal months, prepatch is just around the corner and still no blue post on the state of guardian. Not even a “ya, we don’t plan to do anything, have fun with BFA 2.0”.
