To start I started maining Guardian Druid mid Shadowlands and I play very casually. I know a lot of people are complaining about Guardian but so far I’ve really enjoyed both specs (Maul and Moonfire spec). I tried Maul after I read that side of the tree was buffed and I’ve been having a lot of fun with it. Not sure which one I want to go for solo and PvP in Dragonflight but I’ll probably try both.
My question…for content that I do not need to use ironfur how should I handle Mangle and Maul? Should I try to mangle 3 times then Maul? Maul 3 times if I’m full rage then Mangle? Is it better for it to be 1 to 1 - Mangle → Maul → Mangle → Maul, etc… same question when I use Berserk and I can Mangle over and over.
Basically dont use maul unless you get a tooth and claw proc. The rest of you rage goes to ironfur unless you just are fighting a trash add or boss that only does magic dmg.
Really its not too deep at all. Just when you want too do a bit more dmg, maul.
It sounds like you are asking about Vicious Cycle usage? This is a copy paste from the guardian druid discord. I really suggest you join it so you can get the correct information =D
Maul with Vicious Cycle
1 Stack
Worth pressing until you’re engaged with more than 5 targets, and IF is up. 2 Stacks
Worth pressing until you’re engaged with more than 6 targets, and IF is up. 3 Stacks
Worth pressing until you’re engaged with more than 7 targets, and IF is up.
Maul with Tooth and Claw AND Vicious Cycle
1 Stack
Worth pressing until you’re engaged with more than 9 targets. 2 Stacks
Worth pressing until you’re engaged with more than 12 targets. 3 Stacks
Worth pressing until you’re engaged with more than 15 targets.
This is purely for damage. We want to use Mangle on every Gore proc (especially when we get our tier set bonuses), even on AoE. TnC procs mean Maul is now free, so you have ample rage to keep up Ironfur and Maul as well, and you can choose to Maul more if you want more damage.
Thanks for the responses…First let me say I am asking this question based solely on solo content that I do not need to use Ironfur. So right now I’ve really been enjoying Torghast and trying to get flawless runs in various layers. For the layers I’ve been doing now I do not need Ironfur. Any healing I do need comes from my natural healing/absorbs or my free regrowth. But I am trying to get through the runs quickly for better points so when on an elite or boss I want to optimize my dps, which is where my question comes in.
Ok, this is what I’ve kind of been following. Trying to get the 3 Mangles and then Maul but If I have a lot of rage I’ll try and spend some of that first. I get a little confused on when I Berserk and I have a lot of rage but I have free Mangles. What I’ve been doing lately is Maul 3 times to get rid of rage then Mangle 3 times → Maul once → Mangle 3 times, etc…
This is how I plan to do it when I just want to spam Ironfur. Only Maul when I have proc.
Interesting…I’ll have to practice some more. This looks too advanced for the content I do but I’ve been having a lot of fun with Guardian that I may actually try harder content next expansion.
Ironfur helps, even in solo-Torghast. Being grouped is not a prerequisite for using Ironfur.
-Use both Ironfur and Maul, generally speaking.
-Use Ironfur-only when engaged in situations with tons of mobs.
-Use Maul-only when content is trivial enough where Ironfur is not needed or where maximum damage is needed, regardless of tankiness-level.
-Use Maul-only against casters.
I will use Ironfur if it is needed or if I am getting hit too hard. Right now the content I’m doing is more about doing damage. I don’t need to protect myself from damage because my other healing stuff is enough. So I can focus on killing the enemies. I know once I move onto later layers I will need to use Ironfur but right now I’m focused on one layer at a time trying to get some achievements and flawless.
I’m new to bear so I forgot I have to think about caster mobs vs non caster mobs. That changes how I go about Torghast a lot more than what I was doing yesterday. I also plan on leveling in Dragonflight as bear so this is helpful for that too. Thanks for the tips.
