600+ pulls later I feel I’ve mastered phase 1 enough to give advice. Phase 2, Kruul, yeah… Can’t meet the DPS requirements in tank spec.
So this is real quick rundown, My rotation through phase 1. I get to Kruul every time.
The biggest advice is…
“REALIZE PHASE 1 IS NOT ON A TIMER”
So take your time and focus.
Brambles - required
Wild Charge - required
Balance Affinity - required
Heart of the Wild - maybe Mighty bash
Incarnation: Guardian of Ursoc - maybe Galactic Guardian
Survival of the Fittest - required
Rend and Tear - required
Here we go.
Moonkin Form
I pop heart of the wild before Veriss stops moving.
I cast Starsurge > Moonfire > Sunfire > Spam Wrath until Starsurge cools down.
Eyeball spawns I cast BOTH Moonfire and Sunfire on it.
Pop Regrowth, regrowth causes nether pricks to aggro to you.
Bear form > Barkskin > Frenzied Regeneration then wild charge into Veriss. Don’t be afraid to use frenzied regeneration in phase 1.
Thrash the adds down and move out of the corruption aura with no more than 5 stacks.
Back into Moonkin form and repeat casting rotation.
I never use Maul, I save rage for defensives.
Infernals are the only reason you need to be mobile through p1. I just ignore them they die by themselves.
That’s basically phase 1 in a nutshell. Once I realized “phase 1 isn’t on a timer” I realized I could take my time and make sure everything is precisely done.
Hopefully this helps those that are still trying hard. I have socketed gear but I don’t use price gauging consumables. Maybe in two weeks I’ll get past Kruul
This is not true at all. The fight becomes increasingly difficult the more infernals you get. More infernals means more downtime on Kruul in p2 making the p2 dps check even harder.
As someone who did the mage tower in legion in pre-nighthold gear without concordance of the legionfall I think im an expert when it comes to saying the difficulty difference on this fight with 5 infernals vs 2 or even 1 is like doing mythic raids in greens vs ilvl appropriate gear. Bears also don’t have the defensive cds to eat 5 annihilates and for the life of me I couldn’t manage to get Kruul to cheese a stack onto Korvas like I did in legion - since my dps in legion couldn’t beat him before 6 annihilates. You make up a LOT of damage uptime when you are able to just sit still and zug on the boss.
You absolutely should. The proc maul does a lot of damage. I would also use Galactic Guardian instead of Incarnation because you’re doing a marathon, not a sprint. GG is far higher damage and the 30% hp is overkill cd coverage.
You can basically just run in a circle around Velen (or wherever the orbs are being spawned) and never have to worry about the infernals in that phase. Just don’t stop moving.
wild charge only if you get booped off.
Barkskin the adds and fight Veriss when you interrupt drain life using skull bash. exit aura of decay at 5 stacks. pop regrowth with stacks still up for maximum healing value out of regrowth.
thrash is good but dont forget to swipe. swipe is big value in cleaving them down as its not on a long cd.
Maul is fine if you dont need rage for defensives. usually dump one or two if im going to leave bear form. else its all wasted rage.
i keep dots on infernals so they go down faster and are less mechanics to keep track of.
p2
people try to use/ save orbs for for each annihlation. thats a mistake imo. because it will recast any way, you buy the same time using them one after the other to delay a 2nd cast. which lets you spend more time and rage doing damage vs running healing and using defensives.
see my kill video (character name) for an example of what i mean
but sure, there are a lot of ways you can handle the encounter.
consumables can help a lot but you can save attempts using them by only using them when you get a good p2 pull.
I’m sorry, this almost made me snort my coffee! I wish you the best of luck and thanks for the info. I think for those that are trying to make p2 with only 2 infernals up, P1 is basically GCD locked. Get the pattern down, and good luck with RNG. An extra starfire etc. can put you behind to where you won’t recover.
If you’re using HOTW, Sunfire on the eyeballs is a waste of a GCD you could drill into Variss.
If you have balance affinity, I wouldn’t bother with this either. Drag adds to edge of circle so you can tag Variss and the adds with thrash and roar to interrupt them all. The exception here is if you have a seed pod and it’s off CD, then you can get closer to hit them all, but otherwise having little to no stacks makes it easier / safer to gun down Variss in boomkin.
