Just wondering if anyone has a 1660ti and how it is running wow? I currently have a 1050 and want to upgrade a bit.
Not going to say it won’t be an improvement but WoW still relies MUCH more on what CPU you have.
I get about the same performance with a 1060 and a 1080 for example. (9600k @5.0)
Depends on resolution. If you are wanting to go higher than 1080p, the newer gpu will help you out with that in the world/questing.
No, I am actually using something less than 1080, (1600x900), right now, lol. I am about to get a new monitor that is 1080 and 144hz refresh rate and I know the 1050 is the let down right now.
I don’t think it is the clock speed, but 2 gb of vram just isn’t enough I think. I know the 1050ti does an excellent job, but then it is like, well a little more gets you the 1060…then a bit more and the 1660.
So, going to bump it up, just not sure to what.
Let Linus be your guide on this.

The vram isn’t your limiting factor in wow really.
In raids and stuff low fps is usually CPU, and out in the world, low fps is usually gpu horsepower. None of the textures really suck up much vram
The only thing ill add to this is that open world FPS can also tank depending on your Draw Distance setting.
Going from 8 to 10 chops 40fps off of my average for no real visual fidelity gain, and thats on an OCed 8600K.
If you keep it to 7 or 8, though, CPU shouldn’t be a limitation in OW.
Thanks for the link, I had seen him post the video just had not watched it.
In short, the value of a 1660 or 1660ti will depend on what card you are upgrading from and what your CPU situation is like. IMO, the 1070 eVGA FTW cards are way better value than the 1660 or 1660ti. If you aren’t happy with Linus’ take on it and want a much more deep dive take, Steve from Gamers Nexus has absolutely aspergers level of detail to his reviews on anything/everything and the 1660 reviews is no exception.

Burke is ALWAYS my go-to for in depth hardware analysis and I find he’s less impressed by bells, whistles, LEDs and what I consider “dumb features”. He’s way more into architecture, performance and value.
Thank you, I will look into this when I can. I found out my current pc has a failing motherboard. Bought it in August, had to send it back for overheating in October and now the motherboard is failing.
Building my own pc next. No more cheap parts!
The 1660ti looks really good for the price/performance but like you saw extra $$ bumps you up to better performance.
Sucks about the motherboard, If you got it in August shouldn’t it still be under warranty?
Everything is just a roll of the dice. Maybe get something with no issues and maybe not. I had parts just fail and some last forever.
Yes it is under warranty and they want it back asap to fix it. Not really in a rush though, I have my ps4 pro and red dead redemption 2, days gone is about to drop and i still have witcher 3 and assassin’s creed odyssey to finish. Kind of have my hands full, lol.
I have a feeling the GTX 1660 Ti 6GB is going to be where the GTX 770/760 2GB was when they came out. They perform excellently and are a good value in current generation titles, but they will soon fall off a cliff with the VRAM limitation.
I feel like the 1660ti should be priced around the gtx 1060 and rx 580 launch prices to be competitive. The reason why people don’t talk about issues with the 6gb vram, is because the pc starts eating into system memory to compensate.
Take one more step and just get an RTX 2060.
Actually, I have decided to just build a new system from scratch rather than upgrade this one. Will be running a rtx 2080, possibly 2 since there is an extremely difficult game I want to run.
It’ll be cheaper and faster to get a 2080 TI than two 2080s (SLI/Crossfire support sucks now).
SLI/Crossfire scaling is horrendous in 2019. You will actually LOSE performance in some games with SLI. Multi gpu also has terrible 1% and .1% lows, so even if you got better average frame rates; your minimums would ruin the experience. Run a single RTX 2080ti like Aribeth said,
Just to throw in my 2 cents. Just started playing WoW again. I’m running a 1660ti @ 3440x1440 100hz 21:9. On preset 10 I average around 75-80 FPS open world BFA. Rarely see it drop below 60 even in dungeons, haven’t tried raids yet. That’s also with MSAA 8x, remove AA and add 10-15fps to that average.
I only bought this card to get my system up and running until I could find a 2080ti that I liked. But I’ve been so pleased with this 1660ti that I may just keep it and save the money. Keep in mind I’m also running a OC’ed 9900k so YMMV.
It’s the 9900k just as much or more then it is the 1660ti.
It’s hard to make a comparison unfortunately when your CPU is so overkill.
