Hey Guys –
Is it smarter to group up with your friends to slam quests faster or does this degrade XP/hr by the mobs being killed?

Each mob will only drop one quest item, so those quests will still take just as long as if you did them solo.
In Classic divide the XP a mob gives by the number of people in the Party. That is why the consensus Duo leveling is the right mix of killing quicker without losing to much xp per mob.
Couple thoughts: if you have a good setup (like priest/warlock, priest/warrior, etc) the less downtime can compensate for less mob per kill. Also some quests (hogger) typically need more people so you don’t have to fish. Ya also can’t put a price on the added fun factor of grouping.
Alright so its far more beneficial for us to break into 2 groups of 2 as opposed to a group of 4
Blizzard really didn’t want people to play together, did they?
They still don’t.
Yes for gathering/grind quests if you guys stay on the same map but work different quests. So on the occasion you run into the elite mobs, its easier for everyone to group up and work those quests. Arathi is a good example. Also if you are on a pvp server, cavalry is right down the road.
Also some Duo’s work better than others such as a Warlock with a Priest is a prime lvling Duo where two Pally’s not so much.
Grouping is usually best. You kill faster, which more than makes up for the division of XP. Kill credit is also shared. You can have an issue with drop quests though, if there aren’t enough mobs around for everyone to get their share. Faster killing is only best until you run out of mobs… then you’ve hit the point of diminishing returns. I’d suggest going to areas with large mob camps. (pirate fort in tanaris is fantastic)
Yea we’re running a Mage, Hunter, Warlock, and Rogue. I think despite the EXP Loss we can go through the mobs quicker and the more challenging quests. Plus we’re just gonna have fun too but I was curious as I was told there was no split by another member of my group.
This is the big one. Ye Old DPS + Healer game gives you sustained work. Don’t forget that the XP affect is only on the mobs, not the quests themselves.
For Kill Quests 2 players will go “twice as fast”, so “XP per hour” will be the same as a single player. For collection quests, you have to kill twice as many mobs to succeed, but you can do it in the same time (i.e. twice as fast). XP per hour is still maintained.
But the real benefit is the sustained operations. A Warrior simply Chain charging mobs one after another, with no down time. Plus less wipes, thus less running.
I (as a warlock) will be combing chat to find a priest friend who wants do hit it hard; lifetap + renew = win
Get ready for that life tap button, boy howdy how I was hammering that in Beta. Mana goes fast, Life Tap struggles to keep up. I know, 3 or 4 GCD doesn’t seem like “downtime”, but after 100 times, it adds up!
