if you use any spell with a secondary damage interaction into grounding totem the secondary damage interaction kills the grounding totem instead of being negated by it
biggest examples being offensive primwave, catharsis, and searing light
example ; if i cast primwave on someone with the grounding totem buff, correctly the primwave is then consumed by the grounding totem
however primwave’s secondary effect applies flameshock to the target it does damage to
so in this situation the grounding totem is then afflicted with flameshock and immediately dies
same scenario when you ground sw:death
the catharsis is then sent onto the totem instead of into the totem instantly killing it
is this intended design? afaik it’s as new as totems being dottable
It’s actually always worked like this. In shadowlands you could ground a single instance of bonedust brew damage. So youd BoK, the totem would eat the one shadow damage tick and die instantly as though it was targeted by the kick. Any single target damage ability with a bonus damage proc.
really? i don’t remember that at all and i actively grounded on bonedust all the seasons it was playable
i can only find this single clip and he’s not actively BoKing me
but the grounding totem eats several instances of bone dust brew and remains alive for it’s entire lifespan even getting a moonfire after the bdbs
i don’t know if it’s coded differently now but i just tested it with brm (the only spec that still has bdb) and it didn’t actively kill my grounding totem
could be yeah cause i confidently remember grounding bdb in the games that they’d wait till they got a sck proc to send their big go and grounding being enough of a button itself that someone didn’t have to use MOST of the time
i think in that clip specifically he goes from sck to fof with no single target
can’t recall bok so that could defo be it
this but i removed everything else it does from the lua
it has big red alerts when your abilities miss or are immuned
or your pet dies (earth elemental and xuen ending) that feel like a lot of clutter
I think I’ve seen this happen with stormkeeper overloads too but not 100 on that. Jus thought it was a weird bug since grounding behavior is questionable
Not sure why blastwave knock is groundable but that’s another thing
