With the latest round of changes for the mount system, ground mounts are basically obsolete now. You can skyride startiing at level 10 thus rendering roughly 60% of the mounts obsolete.
What exactly is the plan here? Just give us flying mounts and never look back from now on?
Overall I think it’s about choices and aesthetics. Ground mounts will still have some part to play in dungeons/instance content where flying is not activated. But OW, yeah, aerial conveyance is queen.
I would argue they still have their purposes. I’ll make an example:
I have to travel to another state within NA for whatever purpose. I would book a flight.
VS
I have to travel to another town or city. Going by plane would just be silly. Grab a car and go.
The only thing they could do is restrict flying to end of campaign, but WoD-SL taught us anything… That is a hellstorm just waiting to happen from a good portion of the community.
If you’re flying yourself, plane all day, everyday, and twice on CAVU days!
I use ground mounts plenty, though wish they encouraged use more. Though I’m not really a speedrunner in casual places so I don’t hop on my dragon to go 30 yards.
They need to be brought up to par with dynamic flying mounts. Just replace things like Surge Forward with Charge, or Skyward Ascent with Long Jump. Speed them up a bit, and they’d be usable again.

Who’s forcing you to skyride from level 10 onwards? If you like your non-flying ground mounts, then use them? 
They are making TWW zones ground mount friendly for the leveling process, so those that don’t like, can’t or just don’t want to use skyriding have another option till steady flight is unlocked.
Observation of human nature suggest that they will always use the more effecient method. I’ve had a good number of conversations with other players that say they will level a certain way, but always end up just doing dungeons. Mount situation is no different.
You’re speaking on behalf of other players. If you specifically enjoy using ground mounts, there’s nothing stopping you from doing so.
