Can we PLEASE tone down the ground effects? I can barely see my character in melee on certain key weeks. Quaking with a DK using Death’s Due with overlapping mob aoe’s. It’s just gotten to be too much. No, turning down spell details doesn’t feel like a “win” in this situation. It feels like Blizzard has the idea of more explosions and loud noises and colors = FUN.
In my world explosions and loud noises and colors = FUN.
I get where you are going though.
You can do it yourself. Go to the Orange (Red) Question mark, select System, Graphics is the first category, look and find Ground Clutter and scale it back, or if you like lots of it scale it up. You can set shadows or no shadows whatever you want. You can customize your environment.
In my opinion this is one of the larger contributing factors that negatively impacts game play.
Visually it’s over the top. They all look good individually but when you put them together in a game play situation it looks like your monitor just broke.
The other problem is there is no game play based style guide for these effects. It’s story and theme based. In essence, the story is more important than the game play.
Example from another thread:
Red Circle, stand in it or out of it? Blue Circle, stand in it or out of it? It’s a game of Fizzbin trying to answer those two questions.
I thought you could already do this in the options? You can reduce not only ground density plus the amount of spell effects you see from others?
What bothers me is that covenant class abilities cover up ground effect mechanics.
They are anything but granular and inadvertently turn off very important “stand in fire” effects. Looking at you projected textures.
At this point I think the best solution would be opening up the API to let mods set the stacking priority, opacity, and visibility of effects on an effect by effect basis.
Ok. I don’t use the option myself, I just remember talking about it with guild mates.
Agreed that it would be better to have it more nuanced as to what you can and cannot see.

Allow me to turn off all spell effects except mob and healer AOE. Otherwise red could be bad… It could be a player spell… It could be a covenant ability… nobody knows. So when people say get out of the bad I’m like define ‘bad’ in the context of colors that doesn’t relate to any colors players can put down.
I forgot about that option. I may need to fiddle with this. The effects can definitely be overwhelming at times and make it difficult to see the bad.
The big health mobs in ToP on the way to the Blood and Glory ability boss, I forget the name; those one-shot mechanic charges those mobs do is the same animation as quaking. It’s ridiculous.
Turning down effects is the answer for most of these problems but there needs to be some distinction between affix abilities and mob/healing/damage abilities.
Wow would be greatly improved with more visual clarity in the ground effects overall.
