Tried it on a 9. god freaking damn it.
1_ Damage from 2nd boss is absurd in so many levels, had 2 dps dead by the end.
2_ Third boss is a massive hp sponge. We wiped a bit here, then down it and on that attempt, a dps was down for like 15% of the dragon’s hp. Fight took 4 mins and a half, way too long. Even if the dps didn’t die, it felt like the dragon had way too much hp.
3_ Last boss. We gave up after too many wipes. The add’s aggro table highlights absolutely vomit design: they will chase dps or healers because they spawn so far and so spread apart, that tank can’t actually pick em and build enough quick aggro (unless its a DH). And then, there’s Shadow Gale which limits your room big time, on top of high damage debuffs and group damage in general. It feels like whoever designed this completely and absolutely failed at their job. That or they only ever tested this using 2-3 paladins in the same group.
Just…what the hell. None of the other dungeons comes anywhere near close in terms of awful tuning and design.
Edit: Fun fact. Checked raider. io, and while most dungeons have a 11 timed, even 2 chested in many cases, Grim Batol only has FIVE 10s timed, and only 1 chested. It’s clear there’s some real tuning and design screw up in this place.

They want you to have a miserable time and purchase Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred expansion coming out early october. Shareholders rejoice

Seems counterintuitive. Cancer dungeons doesn’t retain people: It makes them quit in frustration and anger. The fact we didn’t bother to finish because last 2 bosses were absolutely terrible highlights this. We stomached second-to-last, then a few wipes later on last boss and we just gave up.

Tbf it was also a disaster in Cata.
When the Cata heroics came out way back then, most Grim Batol random queues did not finish. Was easily the most difficult dungeon until the ZG/ZA revamps.

3RD boss has way too much HP. Some of these dungeons need a lot of work. Just had issues in Stone vault with the timings on t he 3rd boss.

we had on our kill attempt only 1 dps down for like 15% of the dragon’s boss period.
Boss took 4:30 to kill. I get it, its meant to be hard, but there’s a difference between hard and tedious, and when dragon boss alone takes longer than every other boss there, its an issue.

My only problem is the last boss changes
why does blizzard keep making Purple aoes with purple adds and a purple boss?
gl finding tentacles under the fat bosses as while they’re the same color as him + his aoes

That and the fact Dragon boss has too much hp. There’s damage overtuning across the board, but the most glaring issues in my opinion are last boss and 3rd boss being a damage sponge.
The Cata version wasn’t too bad once you compare with the revamp.
Cata version didn’t have unavoidable burst damage at every boss. Admittely, some cases did but it wasn’t that terrible as a whole.
Dragon also wasn’t an HP sponge that summons 2 shadowflame adds (it was 1 add in cata).
Last boss likewise was well telegraphed and took increased damage during the void vortex mechanic. Also that boss didn’t cover half the fight area in tentacles, nor did it shaft you with craptastic purple debuffs. Also, only 2 adds were up and they were snare-able and didn’t do anything if you killed them in time.
This version you have almost 10 adds per wave that spawn and are so far apart that healer is guaranteed to get aggro of some, and unless you are a DH, you’ll struggle with aggro for no good reason.
The void circle has the aforementioned circles, sometimes tentacles, almost everything in this fight is a visual vomit of purple due to the same shade of purple/blue being used for different mechanics(I swear, its as if a void unicorn had a bout of explosive diarrhea.
It’s objectively far worse now than it ever was during Cata, and its a fact.
The tuning is all over the place, that much i can tell you. MOTS is easiest one, Necrotic wake is second easiest if not for the 3rd boss abominations mechanic being high damage. Rest range from okay to godawful, with Grim Batol being easily a tier of its own in terms of awful.

did half the playerbase forget about the m+ changes to key levels? a M+10 now is an old 20, in before someone says “yea 20’s are nothing” while some dungeons have bad scaling people are trying push too quick too fast for their skill level and gear and it is just causing them to fail.
most people say a 20 is the end point for M+ just cos other than io theres no real reason to push further other than epeen those that do want to challenge themselves and people are trying to push it without even having full normal raid ilvl and then wonder why they are dying or bosses take too long

The content drops gear in the 610 ilvl range, and all of us were 605-610 ilvl.
The damage is WAYYY overtuned, and dragon boss has too much HP.
There’s a reason the likes of Ara’Kara and freaking Dawnbreaker already have 2 chested 11s in raider. io, but Grim Batol keys timed are 1 chested 10s (that you can count with your own hands) at best, and those are few. Most are either 9 or below timed, and an alarming amount of depleted Grim Batol keys in general.
Grim Batol is definitely overtuned (i did MOTS 9 timed, so the fact Grim Batol on same key level was x100 worse is inexcusable, especially last boss).

it drops 610 ilvl gear but that still upgrades to 626, champ gear drops at 597 but upgrades to 619, while grim batol may be overtuned its still not meant to be easily cleared just cos the gear that drops is 610. they could leave it as is and in 2 weeks when everyones 619 it will fly by so much easier.
one could argue the other side and that those other dungeons that are easier should need to be buffed to match the difficulty. need to look at both sides of the coin here. not to mention the fact its M+ week 1 and only season week 2 and no ones rocking full set tier yet unless they are uber lucky / funneled

Highest my group got yesterday was a +7 Grim Batol. We beat the last boss after about 8 tries (did NOT time the key), but I feel like that was the limit of my ability to heal at the moment. I don’t think I could complete a +9 for a little while yet.

It’s not an excuse for the dungeon to be objectively worse than any other key at the same level. It’s overtuned. Plain and simple
Only ones i can concede are MOTS and Necrotic wake, but with the caveat that NW needs to have the damage from 3rd boss abominations taken down a notch as its pretty high. Rest seems fine.
It’s just that when you do the keys and compare, the outliers and bad tuning become glaringly obvious. If a key is 2 levels harder than it is, like a 8 Grim Batol being harder than a 10 of literally anything else, then its failure tuning.
The answer isn’t to buff all the other dungeons to be 2 key levels harder: Just match Grim Batol Difficulty with the average of the rest. There’s no fun in getting melted by high damage or having to sit 4 mins dpsing an hp sponge and its adds. It’s like you came here to tell me every Amirdrassil boss had to be Tindral levels of difficulty because Tindral himself was poorly designed and tuned.

This dungeon melted my brain. I actually was farming Heroics in Cata, so when I got in here it was a whiplash.
The dungeon is a jebait moment, you have to relearn everything. Last boss is cringe. Last boss needs his HP reduced by 10% then I will play the tentacle mini game. I need to retry the dungeon now that I have much better gear.

In a few weeks, you will see people making posts about no content, how easy M+ is and how dead the game is.

Youre complaining about doing a 9 (19) on the first week of M+ release? Ok.
