American cheese, butter, and I love to add bacon, though I rarely eat bacon anymore. Ever since I learned how smart pigs are, I feel guilty whenever I have bacon.

Rare ocation i use Havarti or other good cheeses, marble is closest to cheddar i use, luckly i don’t have American cheese, a&w serves American cheese and its atrocious to taste buds

i do cheese tortillas, when i first met my OG wow buddies in real life and we had a sleep over/lan party and all made them. Now its like a wow staple for me, good memories

Cheddarella for cheese. Half cheddar, half mozzarella. That’s the best setup.
As for margarine or butter… neither. Mayonnaise on the outside of the bread instead of butter. Tastes amazing and gets it crispier (in my opinion). You should try it the next time you make one!

My grilled cheeses have multiple cheeses and sometimes tomatoes, jalapeños and bacon jam.
I have used Brie, cheddar, American, Swiss, Muenster, Gruyère . Sometimes I use pimento cheese.
Whatever I have on hand. It varies a lot.
Good quality bread is critical as well

i slightly toast bread with toaster , then add cheese and tomato to each single slice of bread and broil open face in oven until cheese melts
