Warning to anyone getting a third player made item.
I found out today that missives count as embellishments and Griftah’s Heavy-Duty Embellishing Powder does not remove them.
Do not put an embellishment or missive on the third piece of player made gear if you have 2 pieces with embellishments and or missives.
I have 2 embellished items and decided to have a ring made. I left the embellishment slot empty but put a missive in. Low and behold I get my ring back and can’t equip it as it states I already have 2 embellished items. Well, everything on the web that I found states to just use the powder to remove embellishments. Not so…even all the videos I watched are incorrect. They show you how to get the powder and replace your embellishment with it even though they have a missive right next to the embellishment they are removing, such bad info.
So now I have a ring without an embellishment but with a missive that can’t be removed and it’s dead to me. I spent a lot of crests and gold on mats just to get an anchor that’s worthless to me.
What ring was it? because one of them has a built in embellishment, the Binding of Binding.
The ring of earthen craftsmanship is the one that doesn’t use an embellishment unless you add one too it.

Missives are not embellishments lol

That was something I didn’t think of Hunkybear. I stand corrected, I did have the Binding ring made. Thank you for clearing up my confusion Hunkybeat.

I did the same thing on one of my alts, had the mats in warband bank for my resto druid to make it and used them on my pally without noticing I had clicked wrong and was stuck with binding for a few weeks on it.

Yeah, there are items that count as embellished gear by default (any crafted item that has a bonus effect on it), while you can turn a normal crafted item into an embellished crafted item with the optional reagent (which the powder can be used to remove). Missives just function as a stat selector where the only way to remove it is to put on a different missive but there’d be no reason to take one off because all missives do is remove the random-roll stats.
Though yes, the binding of binding is one of the embellished-by-default crafted items as they said.

The embellishment powder definitely removes embellishments.
Yep, that’s something I find sad about the current state of embellishments. There are cool crafted items with bonus effects and even set bonuses, but they count as embellishments and as such are useless because 90% of us will be rocking a weapon and one other piece for Ascendance and Banding. So very, very sad.
