Apologies in advance for the newbie question…
If I don’t grab one of my rewards from my great vault this week just yet in order to see what drops when I raid this week, will those kills count towards my vault next week or do you have to choose a reward first for the vault to active for next weeks kills and rewards?

You can let your vault sit and any kills this week will be for your next week’s vault I believe.

You don’t have to immediately pick your vault! All mythics you do and raids will count towards next week. Many people do this for exactly what you mentioned. Wait to see what drops.
But, do make sure you pick something before next reset! Or else bye-bye.
The kills would go towards next week. Also, if you don’t want to claim your vault for whatever reason and don’t want your M+ key held hostage in there you can talk to the panda outside the bank and she will give you the key without claiming vault.
I don’t think it is actually “bye-bye”. I forgot to open my vault one week on my Evoker and when I opened it a week late I had the prompt “these are options from a previous week” or something along those lines. After a relog (I don’t know what triggered it tbh) I was able to claim the “regular” vault for that week. Granted I never actually opened the old vault so I don’t know if that matters or not.

Huh - I swear that one time when I did that - I lost the ability to grab something. I was annoyed - it was at the half way point of S1 so maybe something changed since then…? But that is good to know!
