Gravity Lapse Major Buff!

From the new PTR updates:

  • Sunfury
    • Gravity Lapse’s visual effects have been updated.

    • Gravity Lapse target cap increased to 8 units and Gravity Lapse now stuns instead of rooting.

Spectacular change, it’s how it should have always been considering what you had to give up for it.

Kael’thas is pleased.

I also would have settled for an off the gcd instead of a stun. That way, we can actually utilize the entire duration, instead of losing over 1.5 seconds because of our haste levels.

Just got reverted for pvp, lane.

I am honestly surprised they allowed it in the first place, an AoE stun in PvP is busted. On the flip side it’s all but mandatory utility for M+. The game is getting harder and harder to balance.

I agree with you, AoE stuns should not exist for any class. That said though, they should rework Gravity Lapse to still stun the primary target.

My two cents.

Yes stunning primary would make it interesting for pvp

I too like the change, but they are also changing how it works in pvp. I hope the spell still lifts enemy players up into the air for a few secs and then drops them. That is my favorite mechanic of the ability. They said it is going to function as a root. That scares me.

Looks like Gravity Lapse will not be stunning in PvP, despite it being a very welcoming change to Arcane.

I understand it would be too oppressive if there was a general mage stun, because frost mages exist. Arcane does need to give up Dragon’s Breath for Gravity Lapse, and it lasts shorter too.

  • Gravity Lapse target cap increased to 8 targets (was 5) and Gravity Lapse now stuns instead of rooting.
  • Gravity Lapse now roots instead of stunning in PvP only.
  • Gravity Lapse’s visual effects have been updated.

It still allows enemy players to cast, which just kinda sucks. It is good versus melee though!

My bigger concern is Arcane being terrible in PvP. The fact that Arcane Surge has such a long cast time alone makes the spec all but unplayable in 1v1 scenarios or arena. I am only now getting into PvP for the first time in years because I wanted to get the elite PvP set transmog for this season and I can genuinely say I can’t see how anyone can play anything but Frostfire Frost in the current meta and even then mages are still the weakest link and get trained on and stun/spell locked like nobody’s business. It made me remember very quickly why I gave up on PvP as a caster in this game.

Yeah, it can be tricky to pull off, especially with all the interrupts, psuedo-interrupts, and it is a mess. Gotta keep track of player interrupts.

It would be interesting to make Presence of Mind interact with more spells, having it interact with Arcane Surge by reducing the cast time by 1 second or something, would be a big boon!

Eternity Surge, hits harder and has a way shorter cast time, like .5 seconds lol.

Don’t give up! Try out rated solo bgs, they can be pretty fun. I’ve only played two this season so far though haha

Arcane feels awful on 2v2 and 1v1 scenarios unless you have a rogue helping you lock people down or another caster to split aggro or kicks or help CC people to give you time to get stuff off.

But it’s definitely doable. Spellslinger Arcane gives you some extra wiggle room with bigger shields and longer distance displacements for some outplayability.

Frostfire Frost is just the best because of the amount of hard hitting instant casts and RNG snares baked into the kit that make it miserable to fight, but that said nothing quite goes like getting a surge/touch go off and just melting someone.

Arcane mage and fire are pretty bad in PVP at the moment even with a AOE stun. But yea lots of classes have AOE stuns, frost dk has 2 aoe stuns for instance, warrior has one, Hunters now have one, All monk specs, shamans, DH, warlocks with shadow fury, it doesnt really break PVP fire or arcane getting it. Fire and arcane still at the bottom of the ladder for all 40 specs.

That’s what I’ve been doing. Got to 1600 pretty quickly but then I started getting only like 15-20 points per win instead of ~100. And then it’s 8-12 reduction per loss and even games that give you a lame “rating unchanged” message at the end, so the slog is real.

There is obviously some kind of massive rating deflation after the 1600 cutoff point aimed at getting people to play longer. Except it’s torment for those of us who don’t enjoy PvP and just want the damn transmog set. And I imagine it’s also frustrating for the people we get paired with. I try to stick to objectives and do all the busy work like re-capping, callouts, etc. because I know I am no good in a 1v1 fight but I still feel like I am out of my lane and don’t know how much I am actually contributing.

I am still going to stick it out but it just feels like such a terrible system. /smh

It’s not a Mage stun, it’s a Fire and Arcane stun.

That being said, bring back Deep Freeze.

None of the top key doers take Gravity Lapse over Supernova

Because it can’t stun yet… You quoted me out of context, I said AoE interupts are all but mandatory in M+ content, not Gravity Lapse in its current state. Come the patch next week every Arcane Mage will run the new Gravity Lapse.

Maybe my statement was taken out of context. I meant it as it would be oppressive if it was a general mage stun because frost mages exist (where they can lock you down pretty well).

But, since it would only go to sunfury, it would be okay.
