Grappling Hook vs. Shadowstep

Should all Rogue specs acquire access to both (or a choice between one or the other)?

I like Shadowstep because it’s a teleport and you can dodge a lot of mechanics using it.

If Shadowstep could also be used as an instant-cast teleport (similar to Door of Shadows from Shadowlands), that’d make it incredibly amazing.

I want to prefer Grappling Hook over Shadowstep, but it’s still really buggy.

Shadow Step is better 9/10. Grappling Hook has merit in some niche situations but low a CD Sprint is just as adequate for positioning.

Grappling Hook is great for landing right on top of an EZ-Mine node so you can avoid all of the explosive damage when mining.

pvp wise i feel like grappling hook is so much easier to use and way better in bgs.

In BGs grappling hook is harder to use because of uneven terrain. Shadow Step works 100% of the time near a target.

I get shadow step is more reliable and snappy. But man I love grappling hook in bgs. I can quick cap node maps. I can dip out of fights so easy to do rogue jobs instead of getting caught up with team fighting. Just so much mobility to catch EFC or run flag yourself.

In arena there are some pros, when healer is LOS you can still grapple near the pillar and CC healer with grappling. And then grapple back with the free charge from fatebound tree. Very easy to kite melee too, so many times I’ll just zip away from melee, then when they charge me, I zip right back. Can’t easily do that with shadow step.
Getting fast saps as soon as gates open is also great, sometimes you catch the resto druid before they stealth because they busy pre-hoting.

Shadow stepping to get behind for guaranteed stun is probably my only biggest miss.

Sprint PVP talent with immunity to snares was very good for BGs but the nerf really hurt the PVP talent. Currently the PVP talent is very niche as it only works for Outlaw due to CDR. But really Outlaw has access to four grapple hooks so that PVP talent is pointless to even use.

Shadow Step is just more reliable to land a stun or finisher which is where Grapple Hook is just for avoidance more so than a gap closer.

It’d be kind of cool if Thrill Seeker was on a choice node with two versions of itself:

Thrill Seeker - Passive (Choice 1)
Grappling Hook and Shadowstep gain an additional charge, and they move you to your target.

Thrill Seeker - Passive (Choice 2)
Grappling Hook and Shadowstep gain an additional charge, and they move you to the target location.

This, way the functionality is available to both but the spec-specific themes are maintained.
