I read through the sticky thread and have seen conflicting reports on whether or not there will be a toggle for classic/modern models/graphics. One of my friends is interested in rejoining but isn’t sure if they want to see the new graphics in the old game. So I figured I would ask the community to see if there was any definitive answer as to whether this would be a thing or not.
We don’t know if modern graphics will be accessible in Classic, but we do know that they have people working to restore the old graphics. Here’s some insight into that topic: https://youtu.be/hhKkP8LryYM?t=1497
If there was a plan for a toggle to modern models, we’d probably have heard about it by now. There were options for the modern water and shadows on the Blizzcon demo but someone claimed Ythisens said those were probably being removed on his stream.
Alrighty! Thanks for the information!
There was a slider in the demo.
The slider is for bad <-> good, though. Not old <-> new.
Good bad? It made it more vanilla like
What I mean to say here is the slider does not update to new models, and keeps all of the same armor textures and character textures and everything.
It might add shadows and water effects that didn’t exist in vanilla and I do not know if they’re keeping it that way or not.
Would I like the option for new models? Yes
Would it be a deal-breaker? No
Gameplay > Models
I thought this was just graphics and not models
I would strongly wager no. There was no indication of a toggle between character models in the BlizzCon Demo, and Blizzard hasn’t fixed / restored the Retail toggle since they broke it. If the Retail devs don’t consider the toggle a priority enough to make it work, the WOW Classic devs aren’t going to be creating new code to perform an unnecessary function.
The graphics in the new zones do look nice. I was in a Arathi Basin the other day and its been awhile since ive been there but it looks like they revamped the bgs too. But im good either way. The models I like both the old and new I would prefer the old models be touched up.
