Graphics Settings keep resetting

Ive been having an issue the last few days where whenever i log on my custom graphics settings have gone back to ‘recommended.’ I redo them at the logon screen and then when i get into the game I see that while they say they are ‘custom’ the actual graphics in-game are back to ‘recommended.’ Thus I have to do it again before it will show up.

Also, I have a few outdated addons I need so I click the ‘Load out-of-date addons’ box in the Addons menu before I start but then when I get in the checkmark is gone. Whenever I reload it unchecks.

I have tried ensuring the GeForce ‘optimization’ is not interfering, I have made sure my antivirus is allowing everything thru, and I tried going into Services and changing the ‘Secondary Logon’ option to ‘Automatic’ and rebooted as per recommended when I researched it first. I have done nothing of note in terms of updates or changes re: my computer or GC or WoW at all lately.

Anyone else experiencing these issues lately or have any potential fixes? Its extremely frustrating so I’d much appreciate it.

Hey, Haxan!

Normally when I see this happening it is profiling software locking down the WTF folder settings. Addon managers like Twitch can cause this. If you use any addon managers like Twitch, try to temporarily uninstall them to see if the settings stick. Please also make sure WoW is installed in a location that has both read/write privileges. If it is Read-only, any changes you make will not stick at all.

Just as an addendum to this for others the reason for this occurring was I had an addon installed called ‘Advanced Interface Options’ which many do that was resetting both graphics and addon settings. It was still doing it even when I modified cvars to not change them so after disabling it everything was fine. I do not know if there was something I was not doing or if the addon was bugged, however I had had the addon running for a long time without this issue happening.

Thanks for the follow up Haxan! I’ve marked your post as a solution to make it easier for folks to find it going forward.

Sometimes you can just reinstall the addon after removing it - they’ll sometimes corrupt your local files and a simple reinstall will fix after eliminating the problem. If not, I’d reach out to the developers of the addon and to find out whether this is a bug or a feature.
