This might not exactly be the right place for this sort of question since it’s not necessarily only WoW related, but I figured I’d ask for a general opinion.
I’m running a Ryzen 7 1700 and a 500W PSU with a GTX 1070 ti and if I set the settings to ultra/10, I’m getting ~35 FPS in Boralus. It also dropped as low as 27FPS in some areas. I personally feel like it should be completely blowing the World of Warcraft graphic requirements out of the water, so it shouldn’t even hiccup while showing 72FPS. Is that… accurate and reasonable?
I was previously using a GTX960, and I chose the 1070 ti because it had nearly double the (important) performance specifications as the 960, and I was already running ~30FPS on ultra with the 960. I’m just not sure what would be causing the lower-than-expected performance, or if that’s just simply what I should be expecting. I spent a li’l over an hour on the phone with Nvidia themselves doing troubleshooting, and it helped a bit, but it’s not bridging the gap. I’m planning on contacting the manufacturer for a potential RMA, but that may not be the issue.
Again, I really apologize for the pretty out-of-place question, I just wanted to see if I was doin’ it wrong somehow.
As a slight edit: I noticed in the graphics settings that it was set to use DirectX 11. I changed it to use DirectX 12, but it doesn’t seem to have affected or changed the performance in any way. Not sure if that has any impact or not.
If you’re using a GTX card then first thing first is make sure its at its latest update. Nvidia Geforce cards receive updates through a software called “The Geforce Experience” (Due to Blizz rules, i cannot post links) I’ve had many times in the past where my Gpu would be working inefficiently because it wasn’t updated to it’s latest.
Also you need to take into mind that its not just Gpu but take a look at any running background programs that may be up at the same time.
There’s been a list containing numerous amounts of programs that can effect a game’s performance, especially WoW’s.
Your gpu isn’t the issue in those low fps areas, your cpu is. Wow relies heavily on single core cpu speed and the first gen ryzens are very mediocre in that regard. It is also important to have fast ram for them to work well.
I have the 1800 ryzen and a 1080. I set it to 7 which looks and feels just fine and get over 100fps. Try 7 for your settings.
I agree with Yindar on this. While the processor is good on multithread Wow still loves it’s single thread. The Ryzen falls flat there with a score of 1774.
Ahh, and see, that’s why I thought I might be missing something. I didn’t realize turning graphics settings up would be harder on CPU too, I thought that was all done through the GPU’s own processor. My normal/everyday play is actually on 7 as well, with one of its higher settings turn off, and I’ll get ~55 FPS. It’s good enough, I just wanted to make sure I had the most bang for my buck. Which, it seems like I am, since I do recall about the single-thread preference. Thanks much y’all!
