Anyone else with graphical crash when opening appearances tab? Sometimes talking with transmog npc on Yak mount or opening the appearances collection tab the game freeze for some seconds and all the UI elements get weird with squared green boxes. Hope the new Nvidia 580.88 driver fix it.
I’m hoping this new 11.2 update fixes it. I don’t think this is on Nvidia’s end.
Been having this issue myself. Load up my xmog mount and click the xmog npc and it freezes for a few seconds then the graphics go all glitchy. Have to reset the ui to fix it. Hopefully its fixed alrdy though.
OMG I’m glad to see this post here, I thought it was my drivers, or worse, my card haha. Obviously, I’m having this exact same issue and I do hope its fixed with this update.
Same thing here. Changing to directx 11 solved it, but gave me some lag.
I had this issue when 11.1.7 launched. I had to switch to DX11 to fix it.
supposedly its a directx 12 issue, if you go to the bnet launcher > Settings > Game Settings > WoW, check “Additional command line arguments”, and put -d3d11 in the text field, It should fix this, it did for me at least.
Yes, its like the video freezes for a couple seconds, then everything comes back without textures and slowly reloads them back. Started around patch 11.7. However, the random hard client crashes have stopped.
I’ve uploaded my logs to Deepseek, seems like a shader compilation problem with DX 12.
Root Causes:
- GPU Driver Timeouts/Hangs (Error code
0x80070102)
- Occurred 3 times in the log when the GPU failed to respond within the expected time
- Log explicitly states: “Device Lost on potentially unstable driver version 577.00”
- NVIDIA Driver Issues
- The log shows you’re using driver version 577.0 (dated July 2025), which the game flags as potentially unstable
- The crashes happen during DX12 operations, especially when the GPU is under moderate load (~60-70% VRAM usage)
- Reflex Compatibility Issues
- The game automatically disabled NVIDIA Reflex after the first crash as a workaround
- UI Corruption
- The green squares you’re seeing suggest shader compilation issues or texture streaming problems
Recommended Solutions:
- Update Your GPU Drivers
- Download the latest NVIDIA drivers directly from NVIDIA’s website (avoid using GeForce Experience for this)
- Perform a clean install during installation (tick this option in the installer)
- Try DirectX 11 Instead
- In Battle.net launcher:
- Click Options → Game Settings
- Under WoW, check “Additional command line arguments”
- Add:
-d3d11
- DX11 is more stable for some systems despite being less performant
- Clear WoW Cache
- Delete these folders:
World of Warcraft\_retail_\CacheWorld of Warcraft\_retail_\InterfaceWorld of Warcraft\_retail_\ShaderCache
- Adjust In-Game Settings
- Try these temporary changes:
- Disable “Ray Traced Shadows” if enabled
- Reduce “Render Scale” to 100%
- Set “Graphics Quality” preset to 7 (High) instead of 10 (Ultra)
- Disable “NVIDIA Reflex” in Advanced settings
- Monitor GPU Temperatures
- Your GPU reaches 70°C, which is within normal range but borderline for prolonged sessions
- Ensure proper cooling and ventilation
- Windows Update
- Check for Windows updates, especially for DirectX and graphics components
Additional Notes:
- The crashes consistently occur when VRAM usage reaches ~4.5GB of your 7GB budget, suggesting a memory management issue
- The 28-second delay during one recovery attempt suggests Windows’ Timeout Detection and Recovery (TDR) mechanism is triggering
- If problems persist after driver updates, consider using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to completely remove drivers before reinstalling
The UI corruption (green squares) should resolve after clearing the shader cache and updating drivers. This is a known issue with DX12 shader compilation in WoW.
Yeah I was still getting this yesterday, anytime I tried opening up the transmog window/collections the game would have a graphics crash and the reset and it would work.
Switching to DX11 fixes this but this should be fixed for DX12.
Yup. I have this problem. it’s really weird
This has been happening since 11.1.5 and nobody cares. Check the tech support forum multiple posts about it and nothing no response
I had this happen once the other day. It was not repeatable.
Thanks, this fixed it for me. The crash was happening every single time I opened the appearances tab, and now it’s fine.
Happening to me as well, it has crashed my game at very unfortunate times.
Hopefully fixed soon.
This just happened to me this morning 8/18/2025, looks like the Nvidia driver release this morning didn’t fix this issue. I downloaded it around 8am PST from Nvidia software center. I opened my transmog on the mount and it froze, crashed, and recovered itself. Very annoying,
So if it’s not Nvidia fix it’s something client side
Also apparently the compute section in graphics set it to high instead of ultra and it helped a lot. Not sure what ultra does, think it’s suppose add more heavier fog and the glitter in the areas, also I think is for shadow lands as well.
Still happened to me yesterday just outside in Dornogal area. The transmogs section works much better now w.o the crashing every time I tired opening it .
I didnt have this when I first read this threat when it was made then got it last week.
Been happening to me as well, open the mog window and the screen goes black except for stack counts in bags, then slowly redraws everything. Will be switching to DX11, thanks!
Still happening to me. Tried every oddball fix I can find and nothing does it. Newest drivers, clean wow install, no addons, etc.
