This is purely a curiosity question on how you all view the community in WoW… In terms of toxicity… Do you view the community, today, to be more toxic than it was back in Vanilla or TBC? Or do you feel it to be about the same, or has it even improved in your eyes? Just what are your thoughts? And why do you think the way you do?
Before CRZ, server identity and blacklisting was a thing so people were kinder in my opinion.
What is your definition of toxic because toxic to one is not toxic to the next.
Personally, I notice an oversensitivity problem, not a toxicity problem.
As someone who has seen barrens chat, we’re fine, no difference or at least we’re not worse.
I feel what is toxic and what is not is pretty black and white tbh lol. I don’t feel it’s all that complex. Anyone that tries to make it as such, is likely a pretty toxic person that is trying to justify themselves.
But that’s alright
Let the nerds hate
‘Cause in my face though, them words gettin’ ate
The mega dungeon is pretty chill, absolutely impossible to find pugs who put up with mistakes in a gamemode where a timer is hanging over their head, which I believe skews general perception… not that its really forgiveable but it is forced affect
I’d wager this game was worse when it was mostly teenagers and the refugee regrets from EQ and UO with something to prove. Most people were just too busy having the best time playing in the mud in westfall to notice.
because of M+ mindset the game overall has become exceedingly toxic even in the most minute of content like lowbie dungeons.
I won’t call it toxic, but people certainly seem to be a lot more impatient these days.
I haven’t experienced much name-calling or other things of the sort.
The community according to me on every end of the spectrum is toxic. It’s hard to find players that are decent good folk that don’t complain about the game. You get players whining about the game, you get players whining about players, players whining about every aspect of the game. It doesn’t stop. Overall, I’ve never had a bad experience about WoW to begin with. Compared to now, I didn’t even know how bad it is. I think this way because I chose to become more invested in the community and over time as I chose to stay involved with the community, it shows no signs of improvement. It’s always been the same, nothing is going to change because of simple minded brats that never learned to accept the game as is and learn to be a part of a community that cares about one another. Life is too short to waste it on a game, more or less try to put an effort into something we’re interested in.
Anyone who says vanilla WoW was more toxic than current WoW is out of their mind. Here’s the reasoning why.
Vanilla WoW you had your server that if you were toxic and rude to people, you would not get invites to anything as you would get a bad reputation on that server
The content was nowhere near as challenging as it is today. It was simply don’t stand in fire while pushing your 2 button rotation. Nowadays classes and mechanics are so much more complex and put a lot more stress on players. Which means now to have any success in clearing high end content, you need players capable of doing so which means good players will not play with bad players typically.
Also mythic plus being based around a timer, means that mistakes are amplified a lot because most of the time in high keys, one wipe or mistake and the key is shot. The majority of the time you can tell exactly who’s fault it was whether it was a missed interrupt, standing in something, not doing enough dps/hps, a bad pull by a tank…. Which means when 5 random people are in a group and 1 person ruins it for them all and that information is clear, chances are at least 1 person in the group has a temper and will call them out.
Also with content being harder, playing meta becomes much more required. Now you can say you don’t need to be meta to run say a +20 key… but let’s be real, you won’t be getting invited if a meta spec is in LFG at similar IO to you as non meta and that’s a fact. So now it’s either reroll fotm constantly, as opposed to playing what you want, or spend the majority of your time seeing “you have been declined”
All of this coupled with the fact that you’re all on different servers and will most likely never see any of the people in your run again, allows people free reign to not care what they think and to be a jerk knowing there’s zero punishment for doing so.
Back in vanilla, you could pug any and all content and clear it. Sure it would be smoother with a coordinated guild run, but literally everything could be pugged. Good luck pugging mythic raid or +25 keys in retail. Which means people are a lot less willing to play with friends that aren’t as good at the game because you can’t carry bad players in high end content. Whereas the game used to be a lot more social where you could get by having a couple bad players in the guild and still clear content and have a good time. Nobody has a good time when content isn’t getting done
people acted a lot differently to my face when I was 130lbs lighter
must be the haircut
People had more patience but the game was still new. I remember people bailing on groups back in vanilla too
I was not around
I joined halfway thru Cata. so idk.
I hope the community was closer back then
Agenda pushing, account silencing, M+ whiners, taking the meta seriously. I could go on but this should cover it.
