Hey guys,
I’m currently using asus maximus extreme z270 as a motherboard.
However, MY GPU fans while ‘idle’ keeps spinning at max 100% speed suddenly then back to normal speed and then it stops. every minute or so… and it repeat it self. I assume whenever the temp hits 40c. or something this happens, but its doing that every min while i’m doing nothing.
Is there any way I could turn this off? please… while playing games it doesn’t do that … It’s only while idle. while gaming the fans are running fine without stopping.
GPU: 1080ti, Zotac AMP
I already did, its still doing that.
is your problem similar to this?

Kinda a little bit, but mine is every minute while ‘idle’ the GPU fans start from 0 to full speed. for about 20sec then it stops… and it cycles back every minute and it’s really annoying… it’s similar tho…
Any idea how to fix it? I didn’t have this issue before… It came out with this new motherboard. I guess there is an option from the BIOS or something… or even the GPU it self… not sure.
I am assuming you’re the original owner of this card and didn’t tamper with it via flashing GPU BIOS?
The problem happened when you swapped motherboard? I would make sure everything is seated correctly and connected properly. Even though this is unlikely check the connection on the gpu itself if possible, maybe the fan connector got loosen somehow.
Out of curiosity, what software have you used and do you have it on autostart so that it is running when your computer boots in? Try manually setting it to something like 50% speed and see if it still ramps up and down.
It sounds like the fan is dying, this happened to my Rx 580 years ago. What Happened was the GPU kept thinking it was overheating due to the rpms were not matching to what it’s supposed to be at idle, so it would speed up like mad then slow down because it realized it’s not that hot.
Because it was an XFX card , All I had to do was buy $20 replacement fans from Best buy, they popped in and out easily like ram sticks.
The zotac cards however are not that easy to replace because you got to take it all apart and then back together.
You could try to replace the fans by buying the parts on eBay but you’ll have to be careful which screw goes what. Not to mention losing the tiny screws.
It should be similar to this if you’re willing to fix the fans.
A fan curve could fix it but if the fans are already bad, eventually they’ll just stop working and then you’ll start having overheating issues
hmm weird, It only happened when I replaced this motherboard… It was running fine before on my old motherboard…
However, the fans are running fine no issues while gaming underload it doesn’t do that…
But I’ll try to see if i can either replace another card quick and check if it does that with the other card. then it’s not fan issue I guess.
Oh… If you changed the motherboard, then do this before you buy something
Swap back to the old board and see if it still does it. If not then you can rule out the card isn’t the problem, there may be a software/bios setting that’s interfering
Could be card could be the board, need to confirm it first before buying something you don’t need to
Card could had gone bad when you were moving parts around, we don’t know
