Was doing a normal and the 2 people I was with went off in a random direction , so I went on my own towards the giant X's on the map, was doing my own thing up until about 5000 azerite and I was randomly booted out of the expedition with a "You have been removed from the group"
On top of that, it won't let me que for another expedition either, it says "One or more party members are on a random dungeon cooldown." whenever I try to que for an expedition.
Wtf Blizz, am I at least going to get compensated for my time being wasted? This is NOT a good nor enjoyable experience at all, I just wasted 15 minutes of my time Ill never get back :(
You would have been done the expedition in under 15 minutes if you had stayed with the group
It's group content. If you aren't working with your group, don't be surprised when you're removed.
Group content is intended to be done with your group, not "on your own"...
Maybe talk with your team. Even just a little bit.

I'm not about to follow people when they are heading in a direction that isn't azerite, I thought it was common sense to open up your map and run towards the giant X but I guess I was wrong.
Also I can guarantee I was collecting more azerite than the both of them because they were killing random mobs while I was killing azerite elements, mining azerite nodes popping up from the ground and killing the enemy team.
Nothing is more annoying than someone soloing group content apart from the group. In no way does it speed anything up.
For Island Expeditions on Normal, I wouldn't even flinch. Not sure why they did.

Well those people aren't going to put up with your crap.
Feel like you guys overlooked the first sentence.
Not much you can do about it if everyone else split up themselves.

Always comical, though.
OP suffers consequences for being a loner in group content.
Then comes to the forums to complain about the system, yet somehow fails to learn from the consequences.

A poor plan executed well is better than a good plan executed poorly.
You attempted to execute a good plan (going for X's) poorly by doing so without the group. You'd of been 10 times better off just sticking with them, and would not have been removed.

That's really sad. How much of a tool do you have to be to kick someone from meaningless content.

Gotta disagree with this. I did a normal this week and had 2 people killing basic mobs along the coast.
By the time the expedition ended I had killed the horde team a total of 6+ times while fighting elites for azerite the entire time. They never left the outskirts of the island.
I did all this as holy because I thought I'd be healing teammates that wanted to do the island. I even had one of them ride their mount past me once while I had all 3 horde on me and 2 elites.
I spent 7+ minutes of continuous fighting just to end it. I'm just lucky they didn't consider me a non team player and vote me off because they weren't gonna win it with what they were doing.
I pretty much stick to heroic or mythics (when friends are online) to avoid people wasting my time by refusing to follow visual cues.
edit
I should note that I tried communicating with my team and they never said a word the entire time. They had no interest in being apart of a team and was clearly there to just stick it out for a meager reward when they lost.

Try this ..
"Hey guys, we should go to the X over here. What do you think?"
then talk about what you're going to do.
It's a group thing, not a you thing. Help your group or get dumped in the poop.
You should demand to speak to their managers.

He's killing stuff. They're killing stuff.
What's the problem again?

Ummmm, did you perhaps mention to the group that you should stick together and go the way you thought was the best one?

My "crap"? You mean doing the content as fast as possible? Trying to get the highest Azerite per minute while they whack off their paintbrushes along the coast of the island killing non-elite mobs?
You sicken me
Generally stay with the group.
The exception is, against A.I., and I only do this with proper communication, if one of you can entirely solo or at least tie up the enemy team. I've done this, for example, on a normal, where one of the players was in heal spec, and none of us had much gear at the time. It let the other two casually rack up points while the A.I. was in attack mode and didn't even try.
If you were in there against other people, or just wandering about without communicating, little wonder they gave you the heave-ho.
