Thrall is not longer a Shaman but he still uses totems. The elements have stopped speaking to him.
Outdated lore, he started using the elements again in Shadowlands. Confirmed to still be a Shaman in Orc heritage questline.
Not really any afaik. But they can easily create it with the tank spec. Shamans on Azeroth started with the yaungol under Cenarius. Some followed the Druid ways but there was a number of those who went down the Shaman path.
So the Tauren would be an ideal place to create/add some lore and given the Raceâs background, itâs a perfect fit. Orc/Troll have always centered around casters/enhance/alchemy. Tauren could easily fill the tank lore.
Closest I recall of shamanistic magic being associated with âtankingâ goes back to the the idea of rune keepers. Shamanistic rune word magic was commonly associated with ogre magi. It could almost be considered a complete magical system, though we often see it recently dominated by death magic and the words of creation they were not limited only to those realms. Shamanistic rune keepers would used them to cast protective wards or enhance offensive abilities on a person on in an area.
The tabletop version of Warcraft had a few interesting classes that explored the ideas, including the rune warder who would mark both their armor and tattoo themselves. The designers werenât necessarily ahead of their time, but (imo) they were playing with a lot of creative ideas ahead of WotCâs DnD. I think itâs kind of a travesty that the books went out of print.
I have been able to off-tank some current Mythic+ by default - CD dependent but I have always wanted the option to go tanky earth boy shaman full-time. Nice job putting the time and effort into this.
