Two weeks in a row now, I’ve been handed gear that should be significant upgrades given incredible leaps in item level and therefore stat allocations. However, it isn’t.
I put in the effort for an upgrade that is a downgrade because it came with an inferior corruption.
420 boots with a r3 TD are more powerful than 470 boots with a r2 void ritual.
This exemplifies why corruption is a bad system. The lucky player gets rewarded, not the player who puts in the hard work. I could very easily be a fresh 120 who just happened to get my BiS corruption in my first Visions run and now be set to out-perform players who grind ritualistically and simply haven’t gotten lucky enough to get a good corruption roll.
Yes, I got lucky and got r3 TD. Now I have a passive proc that adds 20% or more damage to my gameplay to no credit of my skill, just because I wear the gear.
Nix this corruption BS. Or fix it. A week of hard work should reap more powerful rewards than an RNG roll. Always.
Possible fixes:
Make specific corruptions targetable to grind
Make corruptions transferrable or upgradable
Weight stronger corruptions to be more likely on higher ilvl gear
Just a few for the crowd to mull-over
I tried to make a similar point in another, similar situation from last week but someone took it that I was complaining about my DPS. I’m not. This is about how ludicrous the corruption system is.
Corruption is impactful but not as much as you’d make it out to be after the Vision changes brought in place.
So someone who has been playing this whole time, getting corrupted gear from visions/chest/other content could be so unlucky as to not get one corruption that does not sim better than an newbie 120?
Now I’ll admit I have been pretty unlucky on my Paladin - no infinite stars not even once and got one 25 corruption TD, bought another 25 corruption TD for another slot. This would still simulate better given my cape, corruption resistance and other corruption effects I can afford to wear even if they’re ‘not as good’.
I think everyone knows this is a problem by now. I also keep wondering how Blizzard keeps making the same gearing mistakes over and over. Why not just add a corrupted socket to gear like we had in MoP and then have the corruptions drop as gem like items we can gear socket?
Ya, that clip where he didn’t think players should be sim’ing gear was probably his way of saying “we’re going to make sure there are things that are unquestionably over-powered by comparison to anything else so you know that you just wear that thing rather than actually trying to min-max your character’s stats”
2k DPS drop.
Don’t believe me? Sim my current gear vs 470 Spark Dampening Footpads with r2 void ritual.
It’s over 10k dps lost on AoE sims.
The 465 corrupted bracers I got today have me replacing my 445 pants for my 430 infinite stars pants once again. I just can’t get away from those pants!
Ohh the horror of having to make choices based more than just on ilvl alone. Almost makes the game forces a player to think a little. Seriously the xpac is about done with in another 8 months or so. Then you wont have to deal with it any longer. I think you can survive that long. I know I will be able too.
Except that’s incorrect as well, because who knows off the top of their head or by looking at it what combination of corruptions they have access to is strongest?
You equip that new corrupted piece but that means you need to change out 4 other pieces of gear, all of which have numerous procs, buffs, effects. And you have 5 options for each of those slots and essences that add more resist if needed but might be less effective, so that needs simming as well.
Game is just world of simcraft now. I know a few people that legit spend more time simming than playing, and when they get a potential upgrade I die inside a little because they’re going to um and ah on discord for 30mins looking at sims.
I had to run some the other day with 16million possibilities, to figure out if it was possible for me to gain dps with a 15ilvl weapon upgrade I got (it was corrupted so was going to need complete gear change out to not have too much cortuption). Each sim took like 20mins to run with the top level of sub to raidbots.
The answer? Nope, can’t wear it in dps spec without purifying it. Yup, good upgrade for tank spec with complete gear change-out.
There’s just no way a human could’ve figured it out without advanced math study and probably a week of calculations.
We have the ability to do that based on secondary stats. Ilvl is important but not king for many specs, and it’s generally possible to determine this as a human. Your spec is a good example - you probably know to make some ilvl sacrifices to gain crit. You won’t know EXACTLY where that breakpoint is, but as a human you’ll be able to get pretty close.
The complaint is that to play anything close to optimally - it is absolutely NOT possible to determine with corruptions. Especially once you have at least a few pieces, and it’s only going to get worse.
Its the players that have gone simcraft crazy over every little thing. Not Blizzard, making the gear simplex wont change that, you always had your max/min people whom no matter how they calculated it or the tools they used over the years. Would spaz over the expectation of perfection. They ruin the game for themselves. Its not Blizzards fault. At this point many groups of people are way over geared for about every content in the game outside of mythic raid and more and more are becoming pretty much over geared for that as well. Gear is not the issue. But people will perceive they need the perfect set of gear or stats or that extra 2k in DPS for what ever at this point.
If they are so bent on driving themselves totally crazy, then good for them. Its their own fun they are ruining when they scream they are not getting the drops they demand or expecting to happen for them week after week. Or when they are faced at having to SIM stuff for hours to cover every possible combination of gear they have horded up.
Everyone plays the game differently. I play for enjoyment, not perfection. I wont ever be World 1st raid team, and frankly don’t care. I just enjoy clearing heroic raid at a relaxing pace and getting it done before the AOTC goes away. Because one thing is after all these years of playing this game. Once a new patch or new xpac drops, no one cares when you got your last AOTC anyways, its all just water under the bridge.
