I keep hearing owl but the idea of rolling into battle with a pig or an owl honestly doesn’t sound fun…
I was hoping a bear or gorilla is just as good for holding aggro.

Gorilla and name it harambe.
Boars. For I am their Lord. My minions shall overrun Azeroth and feed on all that oppose us.
Gorilla is great for leveling and 5 mans. It’s aoe actually does good damage and holds great aggro.
Depends on what you’re doing.
Petopia dot com is a real good site for researching Classic WoW pets.
Vultures are a great all-around pet.
The can learn a wide array of moves like dive, claw, bite and screech, they have balanced stats, and they can eat mage-conjured food.
Look glinda didn’t come in trolling or being sarcastic.
I like my boar. i can feed them anything.
charge is helpful for getting to a mob quick.
Her name is Skillet.
I am neither sarcastic nor trolly. And I never troll sarcastically.
I’m just a helpful little gnome.
the rake is a great pet
I just got him on my hunter, but made the mistake of waiting until I was 24 to do it. Man leveling pets who are way lower is a PITA.
Definitely this. Solo questing in the world? Farming at max level? World PvP? Duels? BGs? Dungeons with tank and healer? Dungeons on your own?
Earlier in leveling, you’ll probably want to pick a single pet you’ll hang onto, unless you think you’ll have the 5g necessary to pick up the second stable slot. (My primary hunter has The Rake and one of the Worg from Silverpine who has the Howl, and to learn new abilities by taming other pets, I have to have both of those stabled.)
A last thing that you don’t learn from petopia necessarily, some pets are more audibly annoying than others. Try finding existing hunters who have pets like the crocolisk or the bat, and you can decide if you want that constantly in your ears.
If you’re just leveling and not doing some specialist thing, then any pet will do. As long as you keep their basic skills (armor, stam, growl) trained and up to date, they’ll all hold aggro for you. Some are tankier than others (boars, gorillas) and some are faster and/or do better DPS (cats, wolves, various birds). If you’re a super-cereal PVP person you’ll want a fast pet (a cat) or a pet that has a ranged ability like a wind serpent. Other than that, IMO, pick what you like best and have fun.
Boars, their charge gets aggro instantly and they will eat anything, including the snouts and intestines from other boars.

Any self respecting hunter plays the whole game with a crab they got at level 11.
