i just got gorehowl axe from Dawn today on my alliance pally. i went to transmog it on my Horde warrior, but it said i haven’t collected it. is this by design?

Exit and restart the game I’d imagine.
I just tried that, but unfortunately it didn’t work. still showing as not collected in the Items tab.
Did you equip it on your Paladin? That’s gotten me a few times.
I don’t have the axe yet, but it looks like a single item ID in wowhead no matter which faction’s boss it dropped from.
Items that drop can have a “Can be traded within 2 hours” window, and items that are purchased from a vendor can have a “Can be refunded within 2 hours” window. I forget what the exact duration is.
During this window, the game doesn’t count the appearance as usable on other characters, or permanently unlocked across your account.
If this is the case, you should be able to speed it up by equipping the item. This usually draws up a prompt that says the item will be bound to you forever, and accepting that prompt should permanently unlock the appearance.

so i logged in this evening and it still showed um-obtained. i saw on the char i won it on, that it had no trade timer.
i did however equip it on my pally and it showed up when i logged onto my horde char.
so I’m all set.
