Finally it’s time for WoW to not be constrained in graphics.
If you don’t know what Stadia is (yet), Google just announced it’s cloud platform dedicated to host games in it’s datacenters capable of 4K/60FPS. You no longer need to buy expensive GPUs, since there is no load on your PC anymore. The only caveat is you’d be playing on youtube in a browser. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey demo on stadia was pretty impressive, no lag at all. You also have the option t connect a controller if you want to.
The best part of it i see is it is completely multi platform, with no special modifications to games, no porting. It also eliminates the constraints of the internet, it goes from your compuyer, through your ISP, and STRAIGHT to the google cloud data center, NO bouncing around to other data points, or hubs like a regular internet connection. This also lets them claim that the games will run at no less than 60 FPS. It also gives the game designers unlimited multi player support. You can have 100 players in a battle, or 1000.
This IS the beginning of the gaming world you seen if Ready player one!
But dang i hate Google. But, they already have everyones information anyways, so why even care anymore? Because no matter how off the grid, or how safe you are on the internet, google has their hands in everything, and you might as well accept that they already have what they want from you.
It sucks, i know, but thats what you get when something isnt regulated, and we all know how much all the neckbeards hate regulation.
I have pretty good internet and I was thinking of all the possibilities that Stadia can bring. However the fact remains, that most people cannot get Netflix to stream correctly in Chrome within the past year gives me a lot of doubts.
But the idea of playing WoW on my phone while I’m on the go through Stadia would be nice, there would need to be some serious upgrades to the game including going to Unreal Engine.
I play at 2k (2560x1440) 150+ Hz and power of G-sync, I’ve grown accustomed to higher refresh rates and don’t tell me that I don’t notice the difference between 80 FPS and 120 FPS because you do when there’s a lot of movement going on screen!
I love the idea, and I think it will be great for some, but I don’t believe WoW would ever do this.
Plus I just dropped $1K+ last fall to finally build my own PC for WoW, so I’ll pass.
I will keep buying all games I can as physical copies… and run away like mad from the streaming model. I want games… I want consoles… I don’t want the future to have fleeting models that cause games to be lost to time. There are already games that have suffered that fate. Unplayable forever because the net service that provided them is gone, without enough residual information to even begin emulation. No more vaporware!!
It is. I was in the project stream beta for ACO and it was absolutely horrible. My connection is 330 down 20 up and I had 20-25 ms to their servers. Not only did the game struggle to hold even 30 fps, there was constant stuttering and noticeable input lag and walking in any area with trees instantly killed the visual quality of the stream.
On top of that the data usage is completely insane and the service is entirely useless to most of the USA because of data caps.
Man so many people here are like “I ain’t gonna change how I play games.” If I had that attitude I’d still be using a floppy disk to boot up so I could dial in to a BBS.
More like I’ve been burned by the next great thing so many times that I’ll let others be tinder for this fire. Half a dozen companies are going to be launching streaming game services this year. Who knows which will turn out on top.
Plus Google will take successful ventures and close them down simply because the CEO gets bored of them.
