Goodbye Wowpedia, hello?

Well this is going to be interesting. I wish Blizzard would host their own official wow encyclopaedia.

both wowwiki and wowpedia are awful sites. oftain containing old outdated information.

wowpedia is one of the few sites that has any relevant info on WoW’s api. I refer to it a lot when I need to reference an event or a function.

There is no other site that is kept up to date in such a relevant way. Yes, I realize Bliz has put stuff on github, but the way they write is so arcane to me… It might as well be gibberish in most cases.

can confirm, more than once I’ve referred to wowpedia while writing a macro to figure out how to arrange the syntax.

Wowpedia is just fine and updated. Wowwiki is old and no longer supported.

Wowpedia is an officially-recognized wiki dedicated to cataloging Blizzard Entertainment’s Warcraft universe

Tell me you don’t use wowpedia without telling me.

Hello.
Hello.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!

It’s Bono now.

WoWpedia will give you a new U2 album.

Man I keep forgetting how crap Wikia had gotten over the years. I know the only reason why mine isn’t a complete mess is because of some code that I suppose was grandfathered in well over 8+ years ago that prevents the worst of the ad placements in articles. Unfortunately I have no idea how to access that code anymore.

People use more than Wowhead?

Yes.

Ad blockers help.
When wowhead started spamming ads, I gave them the boot.

It’s just for their new name so it’s good.

They should stay as wowpedia because it makes sense and my brain is already hardwired to look for it that way.

Also someone should pull the plug on wowwiki while we’re at it. Just gives people false, outdated info now. I think they still present the really old roleplaying guide as cannon yet.

I still think of that guy who came here after a deep dive in wowwiki to ask how “Warp magic” works in relation to arcane mage spells, because the RPG said that Arcane magic is a derivative of “Warp”

Yeah, Idk why anyone still uses the others outside of niche cases.

Wowhead is for stuff and quests, wowpedia is for lore. Whether for RP purposes or just wanting to know what a thing is.

Yeah, this is an invaluable resource for API calls and the like. That’s all I use it for.

FANDOM owns both wowwiki and wowpedia and seem perfectly content with having both over putting the plug on wowwiki.

Currently Warcraft wiki is in the lead (with 7 votes at the time of this post) as the new name for wowpedia, another current suggestion is Warcraftpedia (with 1vote at the time of this post).

Wowhead is a marvelous example of corporate shenanigans and monetization ruining a resource on the internet.

What do you mean ,specifically. I havent found anything troubling about the site. Just curious.

It used to be a much, much cleaner site. Now, look at how bloated it is. Look at all the ads and autoplay videos. It’s also been known to host malicious scripts at times.

It’s a mess.
