Water Strider Nerf

Because of the dominance of Water Strider, they are removing its ability to walk on water according to T&E. This means that characters below level 100 will not have access to a water walking mount.

T&E announced that if you have a Water Strider on 8.2’s launch, you will get a free [Inflatable Mount Shoots] item which lets all your mounts walk on water. In addition, if you head to the vendor where you bought a Water Strider, you’ll be able to buy more of this item for a greatly reduced price as an advantage for those who already have the Water Strider.

I sure am glad Blizzard took the time to fix the game breaking water strider mount imbalance and not something trivial like class design.

Wait.

If I have a water strider, I get the boots that will allow all my mounts to walk on water.

But I can also buy more shoes if I already bought a water strider…

…what?

Does this mean you need a pair of shoes for EVERY mount you have if you want them all to walk on water?

There are multiple mount armor pieces that do different things, you can only equip one at a time.
If you want to swap to something else like parachute on dismount… you would need to buy another water walking armor piece and equip it later if thats what you prefer…

You do know if this is true and we cant use water strider mount, there will be an uproar. You can count and bank on it.

you can still use the waterstrider… if you put on the new shoes.

I am very happy for this change because I hated how it looked and as much utility it has… IT required fishing rep… screw that rep.

I am a bit confused by this… if you use the shoes - do you have to use them on each toon or each mount?

I’m still wondering why we haven’t been seeing any new water mounts. I don’t mind if they can’t walk on water, but it’d still be nice to be able to move a little faster while in water. And no, that consumable piece of crap that engineers got gyped with doesn’t count.

But like, why? Why make peeps jump through hoops like that?

The shoes already address the issue of people relying on the Waterstrider for waterwalking in non-flight areas, why not just have the ability to walk on water without shoes be the Waterstriders niche?

For a player like me going after the Waterstrider nearly required for some content. I hated the fishing rep requirements as I find fishing really boring. Please I thought that perk on a mount that looks stupid made me not want it… but the perk was too damn good.

My point is that with the boots you already no longer need to worry about that, you can already put the boots on any mount and get that utility

So what does removing the baseline utility from Waterstrider actually achieve besides annoying those that did do that ungodly rep grind for that baseline utility?

If this goes though, next they’ll remove herb picking from the Sky Golem when they add mount equipment that lets us pick herbs while mounted.
