Goodbye Character Levels

Well, the time has finally come. I just spent the last 20 minutes or so staring at the character selection screen until it kicked me off, not even logging into anyone, just staring at the levels. I know at the end of the day, it really doesn’t matter, but it’s going to be jarring to see all my max level characters deleveled down to 50.

I’ve been actively leveling toons all the way for just about a decade with 12 120’s (and only 1 boosted) as of now. All the time I put into each one won’t be devalued, but I’ll still feel like it is, at least in the beginning. I’ve never been a fan of the level squish idea, but once it was officially announced, I had to accept it, and I did. But now that the time is actually here, it’s a little hard to let go. Say goodbye to all your 120’s. I doubt we’ll ever see a level that high again.

Cheers all. Happy Pre-Patch Day!

Geez, imagine if we did though! That would probably mean the game was about 30 years old! That’s scary!

Happy prepatch day, just look at how many more that you can have at max level with the squish.

I have 10 at max and whole lot between 110 and 120, it will be odd to see them so low. I don’t ever expect to see those numbers again.

I am looking forward to logging in later tonight and seeing them all, and then makeovers!

Relative power is relative power, but that doesn’t mean going from 120 to 50 or 40K DPS down to, whatever it will be (2K? Less?) doesn’t “feel bad”.

Even when doing Timewalking dungeons and hitting things for “100’s” of health, just didn’t feel good.

But, all that said, 2 years ago we were hitting for millions of points of damage and somehow we muddled through BFA.

We’ll get used to it, but that doesn’t mean the transition doesn’t sting a little.

If you guys want to see something really strange, check out your character profile. Level 50 characters, with your BFA iLVL and gear that requires 120. It’s…bizarre.

Definitely a little weird but having been playing recently in the Beta version of SL i got used to it. The fact that a lot of the zones down scaled as well was weird but it all works out in the end.

Level squish and item squish. With this much squishing they might as well have been gnomes

You spent 20 minutes looking at your character levels?

As long as gameplay feels the same, I don’t really mind. They are just numbers.

It’ll be alright. I’m looking forward to logging in and having fun leveling. I even deleted some of my 120s just for the sake of having more slots so I could make more characters.

if people are willing to buy it, theyll keep creating content

Because people are scared of three digit numbers for levels. We all get to mentally feel weaker and lost progression. You may not notice it right away but the community is going to be in bad mood for some time as the brain does not like going backwards in progress even if it is only cosmetic.

Yes, as long as. I’ve never been a fan of squishes, but I get why they do them. Even though to computers numbers don’t matter, they matter to people, and without a squish, they’d eventually reach the billions, even trillions. I just wish they’d learn how to mitigate the numbers into slower progressions so we can get used to the new norm and not have another squish after SL ends. You know it’ll happen if they don’t control the numbers.

I kind of wonder how long we forum avatars will be able to enjoy our 120 status.
