Goodbye Blizzard

My account expires tomorrow, so this is probably the last post I’ll ever make on Blizzard forums. I was a Blizzard fan for decades, I bought WoW in November 2004 when it came out. Here’s where it ends. I won’t urge anyone to boycott, but to follow your own conscience about where Blizzard is at and whether they deserve your money. No doubt this thread will be deleted soon, because that’s the kind of company is now, one which can’t tolerate dissent.

Any company which mistreats its customers so, makes “record earnings”, and then fires 800 of its employees without compunction doesn’t deserve a dime from me. Companies have obligations to MORE than just their shareholders, they have moral obligations to their customers, to their employees, to what is ethical and right. I don’t want to stick around any longer to witness Blizzard build further and further towards their “live services” model.

So sayonara, with sadness.

If it’s any consolation, it’s precisely that “live services” model that isn’t showing to be working. Their game output is abysmal lately, and that’s why player engagement has stagnated.

They’re going to have to produce more games, and it looks like that’s what they’re gearing up to do.

Now, as to whether or not those games will be quality… well…

cough cough

We’ll see…?

How about now? Can I have your stuff?

I hope you find a game that you enjoy playing, and also works with your worldview.

That’s gonna be tough. Companies lay people off.

True, but there are some games on the horizon that are crowdsourced by individuals. Some look rough and are a long shot but you never know.

Very true you never know.

And yet you continued to be a customer through the last time they laid off over 10% of their employees.

Whenever I see these kinda posts I just have that sarcastic goblin /cry on repeat in my head.

Then cry when prospective employees ghost on interviews or don’t give 30 days notice…

Oh yeah. I know. It’s a 2 way street.

I don’t get you people. You whine about the game going down hill, and yet when the company finally listen to your lament, you get even unhappier.

Long story short, they are getting resources from laying off employees who are not in the development teams, and put those resources into improving their big franchises, WHICH WAR OF WARCRAFT IS ONE OF THEM.

have patience, judge if you must, but only after seeing the results. (sips tea)

American capitalism has no room for morales since it is well beyond its infancy and has learned how to make average Joe bend over and ask for more.
