I remember multiple items getting DE'ed every raid cause it would be something that either no one needed or everyone had, or we didn't even have that class in the raid like the man above said.
Pretty sure they patched that within vanilla's lifetime so that only paladin gear dropped Alliance side and Shaman gear only dropped horde side.
And if they didn't then it's still only an issue in MC, Onyxia and BWL. AQ 40 and Naxx tier sets are crafted from quests.
