Plan on starting a hunter alt gnome of course and I did say gnome. Was wondering which covenant is best for the BM hunter. I’ll mostly be casual with some dabble in pvp nothing to hardcore.

I just looked over at wowhead and shows Venthyr for PVP is top rank with Kyrian second.

Night Fae according to Wowhead is the best for the hunter class (Venthyr for pvp). For that reason I joined it. Plus their armor has organic and lyrical shapes which fit well with the hunter class. But in hindsight I really don’t know how much difference it really makes as to your effectiveness, especially if you are not raiding.
I also have an Orc hunter, and for him I chose Necrolord, mainly for aesthetic reasons. Better looking armor for a tough looking Orc, and I don’t know if the soulbinds and conduits will make that much difference, especially for your casual play.
I would look at the armor styles. Maybe think about the zone you like questing in the most. Maybe the storyline. And I would base my choice off that.

I don’t really like the ability BM’s get in kyrian… it’s rather… lackluster.
Kyrian is best and Night Fae is second as of 9.1.
Power scaling of stats/Synergy with Rylaks/reduced CD with Mikanos.
venthyr is really fun and good for pvp

My hunter is nfae because I swap between MM and BM depending on the situation.

Kyrian and Night Fae are both within ~1% of each other.
Night Fae CD lines up better with Aspect of the Wild and they’re both ~20 seconds duration. Aspect lasts 20 and Wild Spirits lasts 18 with conduit.
Kyrian CD lines up better with Bestial Wrath, and if you’re running Rylakstalker legendary it can amount to a very nice burst. Rylakstalker is ~1% behind Soulforge Embers, but SFE is a pain to play around and not worth it especially for newer hunters.
Venthyr is BiS for PvP I hear (I don’t do much PvP) but Kyrian is also decent. I think Kyrian was BiS before Venthyr got buffed.
**TL;DR**
Hit up Kyrian if you’re casually enjoying all aspects of the game. Use Rylakstalker legendary in your pants slot.

Rolling a Hunter right now is a terrible idea.
All three specs are dumpster-tier.

That’s if you’re pushing CE content, which most players doing that are not asking for advice on these forums.

False.
While it may only apply to CE raiders from a practical perspective, it 100% trickles down to form the meta.
When your entire class is comprised of poorly performing specs (bottom 80% for all three Hunter specs), your ability to play the game in group content is greatly diminished due to your inability to get invites.
Bottom line is that the class is in a terrible place and your enjoyment will reflect this.
He’s right though. For the intents of Heroic it’s far better you remain consistent and know mechanics.
Judgment, yes it exists but our class has always been relied upon for being able to do mechanics and we can get a good uptime on the boss too.
Personally not as interested in the bow as much I was before but the back has a pretty sweet ability that will help in other content.
Icy Veins told me to go Night Fae so that’s what I did.

No one ever mentions how awesome Necrolord Hunters are in Torghast. There’s a power that makes your Death Chakram apply Explosive Shot to every target it hits. If you combine that with the powers that make Death Chakram hit more targets and the one that makes Intimidation give you 100% crit, you just obliterate everything.
I plan on leveling this character as Night Fae though, just because I’ve never played with Wild Spirits and it looks fun. But holy God am I tired of Night Fae. Why are they good for so many things?
I was thinking of giving them a shot just for the memes of using the 48 covenant legendary that does the same thing.
With it -Not horribly behind in AoE but I think it suffers in single target.
